I'm thinking about adding a sound card to my computer. Since my motherboard has onboard sound, will a PCI board automatically change the sound to the sound card or do I have to do something to disable the onboard sound?

Save yourself some cash and don't bother with a sound card.

Seriously, I haven't heard of people buying them exclusively in years, they're just not worth it anymore unless you're some sort of audiophile.

Are there no other upgrades you could consider? (I know you've just got a mouse and keyboard) What about a SSD, a new monitor?

The problem is that Windows 10 killed the audio software for my onboard sound and now I cannot use my headset or mic. Actually I can use the headset but not the mic so I figured if I had a sound card with the software package and I can use my headset again

A love letter? If its tech related then I would like to hear it too:P

Lol.

No worries, we've seemed to fix it so far.

He's just waiting on a new headset being delivered to test it.

I actually got the headset today (weird on a Sunday) and it's perfect now. Alsop fixes the FPS problem I posted about in the other thread

Thanks for giving a helping hand heaven. If you can share solutions it might help others that run into similar issues.

One possible solution:

- Use an USB headset.

I have the following: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/stereo-headset-h390

nothing super fancy but it does the job.

I got a Kotion Each G2000 also nothing fancy but it works great .

I did get a Soundblaster Audigy FX. I might install it just to see how it works

Good to hear, glad I could help you. :)

Edit: It was just a driver problem.

(Not sure whether I can post a link to the driver)

It's also MoBo specific.

(Will link driver, if allowed)

Step 1. Download updated Via driver

Step 2. Extract driver from .zip and install

Step 3. Reboot. (VDECK software will promt you to install after reboot. This is a crucial step)

Step 4. Once your ASUS G75VW is booted install VDECK software when prompted.

Step 5. Open up VDECK software and click on the configuration icon in the bottom right hand corner

Step 6. Select the option redirect headphones

Step 7. right click on the start icon in the bottom right hand corner and then click control panel. Now select sound. Highlight speakers and then click configure like in the picture below.

Step 8. Check 5.1 Surround and click next.

Step 9. Now Uncheck Side Pair.

Step 10. Uncheck Surround speakers (If you are not using surround sound) and click next then finish)
