Chameleon Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 For me this was a crazy hard decision to make considering there were so many bands/solos to make an impact on my life, but I did narrow this down to 5. The gist here is not what currently is your favorite 5 solos, but the 5 in your life that most impacted you, changed you, and made you who you are. Again this is about solos and not just songs, but if the solo impacted you the song more than likely did, so the song kinda fits too. In no certain order here are mine, these may seem random, but they were a huge part of my life, not only as a person but as a musician Okay, I will start off with a couple weird metal tunes, but even to this day when I hear this solo, I kind of go in to a zone and lose myself. Solo around 2:10 if ya wanna skip to it Next is a well known song but just as the song above the solo just kicks my butt, I don't know why but it does. I literally get chills when I hear it. Solo around 3:15 This should also be a well known jam. Back in the day when I heard this, my eyes melted and my face fell off. There was nothing in the world like it. Solo = all song long Here is one from a well known guitarist, but probably not the song you might expect. Riviera Paradise by Stevie Ray Vaughan was so smooth and beautiful. Solo = all song long This one was huge for me. I would sit and listen to these solos over and over trying my best to pick them out. Lynyrd Skynyrd was such an awesome band, and there were so many solos to choose from but at the time way back in the day Free Bird was the champion of them all and the live version was the king. Solo around 7:00 There were so many solos, so many bands to choose from like Pink Floyd with David Gilmour, BlackFoot, Van Halen, and the list goes on, but these 5 stick out in my mind as the ones that burned their way into my brain and refused to get out.. In no way is this a list of my favorite bands, this list would go a whole different direction. Can't wait to see what others choose or if none do, you at least know those solos that rocked my world. Clan Friend SunLight Posted January 25, 2016 Clan Friend Posted January 25, 2016 It's very hard to pick only 5, and I feel sorry for not including people like Jimi Hendrix... but the 5 that come to my mind, without thinking too much about it, are these ones: Pink Floyd: Moneyguitar solo at 3:04 Marillion: The Websolo at 3:57 Dire Straits: Sultans of Swingthere is more than one solo, let's pick the last one at 4:56 Rush: La Villa Strangiatothe list wouldn't be good without a (short) bass solo (6:07) Deep Purple: Child in Time (live in Japan version)starts at 4:07 for the lazy 3 Quote
Chameleon Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 My friend, that is a very fine top 5. It was hard for me to leave Pink Floyd out of the mix and also Mark Knopfler, The Sultans Of Swing is freaking amazing! A top 5 is indeed hard to nail down, but I surely do love your top 5 as well hehe. 1 Quote
NormanCorn Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) I'm not the biggest stickler for technicality and stuff, so I'm going more for feel and all. Solo 5:40 Solo 3:37 Solo 2:47 Also, not gonna apologize for this. Bad note and the simplicity, man idk. Solo 1:13 Solo 4:04 Edited February 24, 2016 by NormanCorn 2 Quote
