Theo519 Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Should we be doing anything about offensive names? I understand somethings offend people more than others. But is there a line that is crossed? do we do something about it? I know "bunny killer" may offend some but i don't find it offensive and something like " *untKiller " might be crossing a line. DO we just try and get a hold of an upper level admin and let them deal with it?
Malokyte Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I tend to group offensiveness into a few catergories. Listed in order of offensiveness from least to most. 1. Hater of everything good (e.g. bunnies, rainbows, unicorns etc.) Not waranted to get warned/kicked, it's usually just a joke. And even if it isn't, the unicorns will take care of it for me. 2. User of bad language / User of suggestive names. (e.g. dong_your_mom, bitchCappa, etc.) This is now treading into warn/kick territory depending on the person. First, I would politely ask them to change it, just in case somebody might get offended. If they politefully say no, let it go until somebody outright complains. If they fly off the handle upon being asked, warn them. These type of people tend to be immature. Sometimes admin action can curb them in, sometimes it won't. If it doesn't, there's a command for that. If they change it, props to them and you for avoiding a scene. Keep in mind that this is the most difficult level to gage whether a warning is necessary. 3. User of racism / sexism / something else-ism (e.g. Lynch_da_nigga, RidinHoes etc. etc.) This is usually an instant warn in my books, though I have made rare exceptions for some names. If the person's hint at racism or sexism etc. etc. is so vague that I needed to think long and hard about it to understand it, I usually will not warn the person for it until somebody is genuinely offended. If it is racist, and nobody knows its racist, there's nobody getting offended.
=Plat00n= Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 There should be rules on some players names not very nice to look at when someone offending in there name all I can say is (change there name) is there anything anyone can do ?
Lush* Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 People getting offended by someones name? Give me a break. When did everyone get so sensitive?
Papito Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 People getting offended by someones name? Give me a break. When did everyone get so sensitive? Well all know, is a game, a few days ago one player who was banned, said: "I'm american and i have the right to express" 1.-ET isn't a country or a part of the world, is a e-game collective. 2.-One thing is freedom and other debauchery. 3.-If you feel threatened by a name or a word, remember it is only fictional, but no less offensive even harmful. 4.-You're the one that gives the courage or strength to words, not all interpret the same way a word or sentence. F.E. Puta. If some one else come and say me Puta, i laugh, what happen after that, nothing, cuz i don't mind, the words don't hurt!
fred Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 (edited) let people have their names. omfg am i the only one that understands that this is a m game and therefore you should allow m language? anyways allow it. after all we have a leader named thunderc*nt lmao (e.g. Lynch_da_nigga, RidinHoes etc. etc.) leave it to malo to find the most racist names lmao Edited April 24, 2010 by fred
gigabyte Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I think its stupid if someone gets offended for names, its just a game.
Malokyte Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 There's a simple formula to show why offensive names would actually insult somebody. COD4 + multiplayer = internet population Being insulted by names = stupidity Internet population + 4chan = stupid internet population Therefore: COD4 + mutliplayer = stupid internet population stupid internet population = emotionaly unstable emotionaly unstable + insults = mental breakdown mental breakdown = bad

PHANTASM Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Our policy from the founders is not to censor names, even when we don't like them. I have had this discussion before with both Dare and Joe when I wanted to kick some guys with names that I didn't like. Maybe we could have a day where we all put **** or cock or jew in our names just to annoy each other. Oh look, I'm being censored lol.
kdoto Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 a name is a name, if someone has an odd name i just figure they can relate to whatever they named themselves. xD

Ahhh those founders... great people.
kandya Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 (edited) People getting offended by someones name? Give me a break. When did everyone get so sensitive? lol Lush yeah some may get offended cauze most of the players are kids under 14-16 y so i think we should rename some of them if they wont do it voluntarly or just kick them ... i had the chance to receive some complaints for this names : moist_testicles/ kiss_My_cock/ MaDaf***Er/ eatURpussy etc lol ...so if we tolerate this then all will start using names like this for rating so imagine how the list of players will look/ ring a bell ? lol Edited May 1, 2010 by kandya
