6GOD Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Here's a lil writeup since I told ShadowFax I would 1. mp_Config Multiplayer configs are HUGELY important for high-level play. COD4 adds a bunch of unnecessary effects that for the most part are a huge detriment to seeing targets/etc. Some basic things you want with a proper config: good connection, 125 or more fps, removal of unnecessary visual elements. I won't go into this as there's already tons of tutorials detailing the matter. Check these sites for good configs: http://www.cfgfactory.com/news.php http://www.gamingcfg.com/game/cod4(CFGs of competitive players, beware they are sometimes really weird) 'Yitch3' is a really common CFG and VERY useful for low-performance machines and people that want to maximize fps. Beware 'cause it makes COD4 look ugly as hell. I'll upload a link my personal config here when I have the time. Commands I've found were super useful that aren't always in configs: bind x "weapnext; wait 2; weapnext" cg_weaponcycledelay "0" (Insert whatever key you want as X, I use the mouse thumb) - THE ALLMIGHY GUNBIND. USE THIS. LIVE BY THIS. BREATHE THIS. You don't have to spam it and look like a tool, but it WILL make you a better player. Use this to stop reloads and immediately shoot, and also use this immediately after you pick up a weapon to skip the cocking animation and immediately shoot. Very important to use with the AK/AK74u as their reload animations are significantly longer than the 'true' reload, meaning you can shorten the end of the reload with the gunbind. Test this yourself by looking at when the bullets on the HUD 'light up' in normal mode. seta compassFriendlyHeight "9" seta compassFriendlyWidth "9" - These reduce friendly and enemy dots to half the size, making wallbanging a LOT easier. seta r_specular "1" - Most configs turn specular lighting off but I like to have the guns shiny, and it also serves to outline enemies slightly with light making them easier to see in some situations. seta cg_hudGrenadeIconEnabledFlash "1" - See flashbang indicators in normalcore seta cg_hudDamageIconHeight "175" seta cg_hudDamageIconWidth "80" - This turns the damage indicator into an arrow, making it really easy to see where you're being shot from 2. General Tips / Nuances - Use the UAV religiously! This thing should be your best friend. I guarantee you will get significantly better if you do this. - Learn common wallbang spots by spectating, this will help you to avoid/counter them as well. - A lot of people really like dropshotting/prone shooting, but I almost never do this. I use the crouch extensively, as you will have less recoil when crouching and also you are reducing your target size without reducing mobility by going prone. - Assume you can shoot through EVERYTHING w/ deep impact (99% of the time this will be true) - If you think someone's there, shoot anyway. - Always watch the bullet tracers. Lots of my kills come from seeing tracers and assuming where the person is. - DO NOT use a red dot sight with the AK/AK74u, they reduce the base damage of the gun. - In normalcore, adding an ACOG sight to the M4A03 will increase base damage slightly, making a 1-hit kill on almost the entire body with stopping power. This is why it is so common to see ACOG quickscopers (and roccat users) with this gun. - When attempting to wallbang on a spot you don't know well, make little circles or sweeping motions with the gun, I find this spreads out the bullets well. - Don't use ACOG scopes on anything but snipers, they increase recoil significantly. That's it for now. If you guys have any questions/things to add I'm all ears. I'm planning on making a little video about common spots/wallbanging tips eventually, but I hate editing so it might take a while. If I do I'll upload here. 8 Quote

6GOD Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 (edited) Some servers kick for certain config changes. Not sure if ours does or not. Yep, punkbuster does for certain things. All of the ones I mention I use in my cfg and I never have problems with a wide range of servers, including yours! The most extreme config mentioned is Yitch3, which works fine in most servers. However, if punkbuster does kick you for something in your config, it lists the reason in the log - usually an easy fix. Edited May 17, 2015 by 6GOD Quote
Guardian Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Nice batch of tips and config stuff! "Don't use acog on anything but snipers", seems you have never seen my uzi with acog before ;p Quote
Pvt. Parts Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Knowing the layout of the map and common places people go is pretty helpful as well. If you know those, you can quickly learn how to get around people more easily. Quote

If one knows the spawns, you can just shoot in the general area and get kills (prime example is Crash). Quote
CruelKind Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 hate to encourage random spawn killing as a substitute for actual skill... but meh Quote
6GOD Posted May 28, 2015 Author Posted May 28, 2015 hate to encourage random spawn killing as a substitute for actual skill... but meh Aha I meant it moreso as to keep track of where people are coming from, since the spawns change fairly quickly once it gets over 20 players. I'd say the same about encouraging tubing and nadespamming... but hey - all is fair in love and war! Quote

Anyone who's spectated you sees major wallbanging at spawn points and choke points, and much less killing by line of sight. But you are correct, it is totally valid tactic. GG Quote
