One week before: two people respond - one says yes, other guy asks if he can bring his three-year old because his ex-wife is making him watching the kid that weekend. Host says no. One day before LAN: Host calls all 30 intended guests. Seven people actually answer their celphone. Five agree to come at noon. Day of LAN: 10AM - host goes out to buy chips, beer, and a bag. 11:15 - host gets home, wife asks if they can go to her mother's house. Host says no. Wife leaves angry. Host is secretly glad she is gone. 11:45 - Someone calls to say he won't make it because his computer won't work. Host tells him to bring it anyway. He never shows up. 12:20 - Guest 1 shows up. Has a computer, but no ethernet cable. Leaves to go to store to buy one. Never returns. 12:45 - Guests 2 and 3 show up together. They heard there was a party. Neither guest actually brought a computer. Host offers to let them use his extra computer. They drink his beer and stand outside where they can smoke. 1:30 - Guest 4 shows up. Has a giant-ass desktop computer and sets it up in the middle of the room where no one can get around him. Host and guest 5 start an Unreal Tournament 2004 server and play against some bots and a few online guests who show up. 2:15 - Guest 5 shows up. He has a laptop with Vista. His Toshiba wireless network card won't connect to the host's router, and he doesn't have an ethernet cable. Plays on host's extra computer instead. 3:30 - all beer is gone. Guest 2 and 3 are drunk. Guest 2 knocks Mountain Dew into keyboard of guest 4. 4:52 - host orders 5 pizzas for $43 5:17 - Guest 5 secretly copies all music files from host's main computer over the router to his 16 GB memstick. UT04 server lags badly for 5 minutes. Online players drop like flies, leaving only the host and guest 5. 6:33 - Wife comes home. She is mad that host did not call and apologize. Host ignores her because he is doing really well on this map. 8:12 - Guest 2 and 3 leave, having consumed all beer, chips, pizza, etc in house. Never touched a computer. 9:36 - wife demands everyone leave because she has to get up early tomorrow. No one listens. 11:38 - last player leaves. House is trashed. Host's copy of UT04 is missing.
