Chameleon Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Got a new monitor, 32 inch lcd does 1080 something hehe. When I got it installed so to speak, it set the native resolution to 1360x768.. My question is this, will it physically harm my monitor to go to higher resolution? Quote
Ol Smoke Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 (edited) No. What is the highest resolution you can use? It will state that somewhere in the manual. A 32" true monitor should be able to do 1920 x 1080 in 1080p format. But it also depends on the video signal from the unit supplying the video. Like with DirecTV you only get 1080p on certain channels. Some HD signals are still 720p. So you monitor may be able to do higher resolutions, but the video signal coming in is going to set it anyway. You directv box has the settings built in for all resolutions, and it will talk to your monitor and set it up anyway. Native resolution is what the manufacturer of the monitor has set the test results to for clearness, sharpness, contrast, etc. They will suggest you stay with that, and most times they are right. Sometimes going up in resolution just makes the picture smaller and blurrier. There is a place on the net that has resolution and scanning settings for all kinds of monitors. I will try to find it again. Edited January 18, 2015 by Ol' Smoke 1 Quote
Chameleon Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 Yeah I can do 1920x1020, I just didn't know if that would damage my monitor going past the native resolution.. Quote
