Antimony Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 If you’re trying to play a game on PSN today, you may be running into some issues. Despite routine maintenance set for tomorrow, over the weekend Sony’s PSN service has been hit by a series of crippling attacks from a hacker/vandal collective known as “Lizard Squad.” The group also claims to have been working to sabotage Blizzard’s servers, along with interrupting Riot Games’ League of Legends and Grinding Gear Games’ Path of Exile. But as of late, PSN appears to be their main target, at least judging by their quickly-growing Twitter feed. “Sony, yet another large company, but they aren’t spending the waves of cash they obtain on their customers’ PSN service. End the greed,” they said a few hours ago on their page. Sony’s response on their own Twitter support channel is a seemingly never-ending string of auto-messages responding to individual users’ complaints. The long and short of it is that they’re working on the issue, yet have no timetable as to when the service will be restored. The hack was first reported by Shacknews, who reiterates that this has nothing to do with the planned maintenance for tomorrow. Out of the supposed hits on League, PoE and Blizzard games, only Sony still seems to be having issues at the moment. The group seems focused on them in particular, at one point saying they’ve planted an “ISIS” flag on Sony’s servers, referencing the terrorist group that has massacred hundreds of civilians in Iraq. PSN is no stranger to this sort of attack, as the network suffered a large security breach in 2011. That time, it was the internet’s famed “Anonymous” taking responsibility, and the end result was the exposure of thousands of names and passwords. In the end after a class-action lawsuit, Sony agreed to a $15M settlement. It appears the “point” being made with this new hack is that Sony still has not done enough to secure their online services, even after a colossal breach like the one in 2011. This is still an ongoing situation, but so far there is no information about the possible of exposure of customer information, only that the service itself is offline. SinfulRaevyn Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Lizard Squad may not be responsible for PSN's outage. These guys have attacked Comcast, Battlenet, Eve Online, EA, Arenanet, GW2, PoE, FBI.gov and multiple Twitch and Youtube Streamers. They have also warned of a fake bomb threat on a plane that the President of Sony was travelling on, forcing it to be grounded. Someone else named @FamedGod on twitter has came out stating that they are the ones responsible for the PSN breach, and has APPARENTLY released all of the IP's of everyone in Lizard Squad. I have been following this pretty closely over the last week... pretty interesting stuff :3 2 Quote
Kepar Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I'm not surprised at all. It was just a matter of time because even a baby could hack them now. No wonder PSN is free for PS3, I mean who would pay for Internet account without support. Quote
Daliger Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Yeah, these guys are pretty damn crazy. Hope they know what they've gotten themselves into now Quote

SinfulRaevyn Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 This is getting really annoying. :/ They just hit Blizzard again. They're still targeting Twitch streamers. -.- So updates... @FadedGod was stealing LS' credit. They outted him and then doxxed him. >.> The Released IPs are more than likely fake. LS has grown to over 30k followers and seems to have a Facebook page. They're having little spats with other hacker groups. No real motive other than to troll and terrorize, simply because they can. One person involved named CHFthemango aliases Chief.. apparently is claiming he is not part of LS, but continues to spew their slogan and threaten people with DDOS attacks. If the dox released is true... he only lives an hour away in scarborough. <.< I really hope they catch these guys... They need a good kick in the ass. -.- 1 Quote
SinfulRaevyn Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 MOAR UPDATES: The genius behind LS seems to be involved in a thread on WoW's forums. He posted on his alt, which was linked to a main level 90 hunter. Claims they haven't done anything wrong in the country they are from. He seems to be taunting everyone that's speaking to him. Lame :/ One of LS most recent tweets is "brb healing." Apparently, if it's true, a white hatter has issued attacks against LS, thus taking their machines down for a little bit. He (The Ghost) tweeted :"You've got a while to fix your "equipment" at this point. Taking a break with some Jack Daniels. Be back when you start again." https://twitter.com/Agent13Green/status/504019955969708033 I have no idea why this fascinates me so much. <.< 1 Quote
Kaliente Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Good news is my PS4 can't get higher than 1mbp/s on wireless anyway because of their shitty hardware. JOKE IS ON YOU LS! Your move. Quote
Daliger Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 UPDATE: Lizard Squad is claiming to stop their DDoSing and everything else they were doing. They have update their twitter and website. Below is a quote from their website Lizard Squad website said: "Little thieves are hanged, but great ones escape." We set out on our journey 2 weeks ago with the plan to cause havoc within the gaming community. Our motives varied throughout this adventure. Originally it was to see if we could evade being caught and to experience the raw thrill of anarchy, not being bound to phony laws. We've been called everything from an organized criminal "gang" to complete assholes, really we are just a bunch of guys with too much free time. Throughout our journey we met new people, gained new members, learned new things. People tried taking swings at us (and missed). We proved that even though we are little in this very big world, that a small group of friends who work together can cause a lot of havoc without legal repercussions. Today we will be disbanding, behind the green reptiles and other bullshit, we have lives believe it or not, things to do, people to meet. Goodbye. Lets all hope that this truly means the end of their havoc Quote
