cant open COD 4 from Steam

Okay i go to start the game. It goes to start up and then the screen goes black and then it minimizes the game. The game is still running and I can hear shit but i cant get the game to show on the screen

Are you trying to open the actual bought-from-Steam version? Or are you opening the non-Steam version from steam.

And what OS

bought from steam version. I just reinstalled it today

I'd try these things one by one in this order. These are typically how I troubleshoot my games. Except for option 1.. Plugging in a mic does wonders for CoD4.

 

1. Plug in a mic
2. Restart system (If you haven't tried that)
3. Verify game cache (Steam option... Right click the game in your library and you'll see it
4. Update PunkBuster
5. Update GPU drivers/DirectX

Right click game, go to Properties, General tab, uncheck enable steam community in game, try again.

I actually bypass steam all together when I play. I made a shortcut to the iw3mp.exe and never use steam when I play.. That way I cut down on processes running while I play. Plus it gives me slightly better performance..

Ok uninstalled everything and reinstalled. Works great

Ok this is happening again. I uninstalled it and reloaded and I still get the damn black screen.
