Only thing I can't do on Linux is matlab, apparently. Doesn't play nice with Mint. Sucks, I paid 40 bucks for a license and everything lol

Did you try it in a virtual machine?  I do a lot of Windows things in VirtualBox, with nary a hiccup, even using the serial port with some old hardware.

I started with Openbox with it just today and I find it as my fav among the mentioned ones.

I use Openbox as well (with compton-git for compositing), light and fast. And cairo dock to launch things I use often, for some extra eye-candy :)

Hahaha, Best solution ever!

I'd like to merge linux with windows. Like one big company would work on "perfect system". Where we can edit everything and everything works as we want to! :P

Th3o

Actually there was a guy who attempted just that but sold out on the project. It was called lindows and it was started by a guy named Michael Robertson, who happened to be the founder of MP3.com, although his company was taken to court by Microsoft for trade name infringement. He won an MS bought the name for 20 million. He changed the company name to Linspire and the actual feature was that all the windows programs ran through the Wine api layer. Which we all know you can get in any linux flav if you download it. So it was a big failure if I remember from back then. And then the company was bought out by Xandros which has since if I remember went belly up years ago.

I always play from openSUSE 13.1

It is my desktop OS, since 5 years or so.

Works great, easier to get going if one installs etlegacy instead of the ancient 2.60b.

awesome topic. i set up my laptop to dual boot win8 and zorinOS (a flavor of lubuntu) and was really disappointed that et didn't run on it. well, it ran, but at like 4 fps. for a time i used zorinOS for everything else and would just boot windows for et and jeskola buzz (sadly can't be run through wine since there's no WPF support yet), but i ran into that problem where i would update the os and everything would f***ing break.

i don't mind messing with stuff to make it work, i actually kind of enjoy it, but it got to the point where i just didn't boot zorinOS anymore and use windows 8.1 for everything. I'll probably try a few of the distros mentioned in this thread when i get some time since i want to spend more time using linux in general, it would be great if i found a version that ran et well with my slow ass apu.
