Reminds me of the landing we had in Maui in 1984.  Came in sideways, until we were about 30 feet off the tarmac, then the pilot cut the engines, turned us hard right and we fell onto the strip. Truth.

As we were getting ready to leave the plane, the stewardess told us to be mindful of the high winds they have here.  We were to hold tight to our carry-on luggage and hats.  The first man to step out of

the plane lost his hat.  Then a young lady about 22 stepped onto the platform, and she had hold of her carry-on and her purse, but her dress went up over her head.  The stewardess tried in vain to

bring her dress down, but she couldn't.  So the lady walked down all those stairs blinded by her dress, and all the people around the airport were looking at her underpants.  Welcome to Hawaii !

All aircraft are designed and built to cope with crosswinds and pilots are of course trained for it too.

Think of it like trying to cross a river. If you swim straight, you'll end up somewhere downstream. But if you swim into the current, you'll end up swimming a straight line across the river.

Same idea, only the fluid is air instead of water.
