Minecraft Crosshair has odd square surrounding it...

All video settings are pretty much maxed out, except the render which is at 10. :P Today I started up minecraft, adjusted a few settings, and when I went back into the game I saw this odd transparent square around my crosshair. Any idea what this is?

This happens to me from time to time. It should have just gone away by itsself by now, as i'm late. I never bothered looking up what causes this to happen, since it just fixes its self for me.
