Hey everyone !!!!!!  :yahoo  *MAD-FORCE* here again.....   I've mentioned this in passing to other players but now I will post on forum.  If anyone is looking to improve their shooting accuracy, a wondrous device that I would recommend using is the trackball.  It has helped improve my accuracy % greatly.  I know that there are also many gaming traditionalist who like using the mouse which is fine too. In summation, the trackball can improve aim and overall game ............    :rockon

if it's good for you...

I never tried a trackball, but I wonder why I have never heard about top players using it, if it's so awesome.

It's all personal preference in the end, I don't know if here or somewhere else, but there was a post about a quake(?) player owning with some other device than mouse if I remember correctly.

After some tests I had made in the past with a custom mod I don't have anymore (edited the code without saving) accuracy depends mostly on reaction time (once you have control). And reaction time cannot be improved (unless you play on 1000fps and 1249874298hz display + 0 ping) or you get a time machine or a brain transplant.

Basically, the test I did was having a custom computer-controlled enemy doing random strafes, with a hystogram of the distance of the crosshair from the target (counting also if you were ahead or behind the target).

The accuracy ahead of the target (i.e. counting only that part of the histogram) was the same acc. I got by strafing left-right with a stationary target (i.e. mouse control a la aiming by Raziel)

The acc. behind the target was much lower, and the max distance error was exactly the distance a player runs during my reaction time (as mesured from humanbenchmark or similar places)

The overall acc. is the average of those 2.

To make a long story short, when you have ideal control (ahead accuracy = as high as you can) the rest depends only on reaction time. Amen. Not on mouse sensitivity or other stuff.

i've been meaning to pick up a steam controller and see how it works with et. the trackball is a neat idea, i had never thought to try and play fps games with it but they apparently used them in testing/development of the steam controller and said it was the next best thing to a keyboard and mouse. ultimately they went with touchpads though because a trackball can't be updated as thoroughly with driver releases.
