It's been awhile since I've built a PC. Unfortunately this one is not for me, but for a friend. It is a straight forward mid-budget build with some style in mind. The owner is a professional tattoo artist and he wanted something bad ass. He named it the Sith Lord early on when I was talking to him about color schemes. We went with it.

The goods... Actually sent back the video card pictured for a ASUS 770GTX.

The stock heatsink wasn't going to be enough for this build.

Sexy motherboard :D

Even sexier RAM shot (yes Im a nerd :P)

Overclock stability testing while waiting on the 6 140MM Yate Loon fans to come in

With such a big case it was easy to hide all of the wiring. Notice how little there actually is. This case was a dream to work with.

The finished product. I did not get a picture with the windowed side cover on or with the lights out with its evil red glow. But the owner couldn't believe his eyes when he actually got it. It wasn't all just drunk talk ;) I do pride myself that the system has not crashed 1 time in 3 months now with his decent overclock @ 4.4 or 4.5GHZ (cant remember). GPU is overclocked as well at least 10% over factory overclock.

The owner also wanted to do something for his daughter for good grades. I took his old and still capable gaming PC and turned it into something cool for her.

It started out looking like this.

Then with some time with my Metro handheld duster and some cool fans and nice case, It looked like this

:D she was stoked. And I got her a 24" Asus screen with her dad's money. She got hooked up this Christmas.

Just a note. I didn't do anything challenging. I didn't wrap any cables. This is all stuff anyone can do when they take their time building and planning out a PC.

Thanks man, but the parts will probably be dated in a couple months :D

Post on the forums and check the guys over at xtremesystems for computer pr0n. They know their shit and many are artists.

Air cooling pr0n: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?36988-Air-Cooled-Gallery/page300

Their watercooling gallery will make you want to spend thousands on a build. lol

Here is my old hoopdy from 2009 again that was inspired after I spent many of hours lusting over their PCs. It now has white watercooling tubing and a 570GTX in it. I personally don't see myself ever spending that much money again on a PC build, because you can get so much from spending much less. I find about $1500 to be the sweet spot. The additional hundreds spend on watercooling are not currently necessary. But it sure was fun. Not so much fun when you see a pool of water on the bottom of the case dripping off of the videocard... My motor went out causing the CPU block to get so hot it deformed the tubing attached to it causing a leak... EVGA did accept the card for RMA.

It is a nice heatsink and very well priced. $30-35 for the Cooler Master 212 EVO http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099  6,500 5 star reviews cant be wrong.

You won't be setting in aircooled overclock records, but its a nice well sized heatsink that should fit in most cases and motherboard layouts. Certainly worth getting a heatsink if you intend on doing any overclocking.  I also did not want to hide too much of his motherboard or ram since they are both pretty cool looking. He'd trade looks for a couple extra mhz of CPU.
