CruelKind Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 (edited) Battle Royale (2000) - Set in an alternate, dystopian present, the government of Japan sees an uncontrollable rise in youth violence. As a result, they implement the new BR law that randomly selects a class group, stranding them on a deserted island and forcing them to fight tot he death until only one survivor remains. The proverbial "Head on a spike" used to deter other youths from violence. Inspiring The Hunger Games, this graphic, fast paced film brings new levels of violence to an already familiar story though without the same care in character development as was put into The Hunger Games, making you feel less sorry for any individual death. 3 1/2 out of 5 from me.
