Heretic121 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Pretty much; get him to play it. You tend to pick it up as you go. Look with the mouse. Left click is to break a block. Right click is to place a block. Move with WASD. 'E' is for inventory. Spacebar is to jump. Quote
The_Dom Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 As you are starting out it is important to get usable resources, such as wood, right way to make basic tools. Then you could start to build a basic shelter before night falls and the monsters come out. After those two needs are meet, tools and shelter, you need to start finding resources for food. A really good youtube series that got me started is http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2A919CD9628A1AF5 Coe's Quest. Especially the first few episodes really helped me get started. Later that series gets boring, but to start out, he offers some really good advice. Quote

Kill three and get their wool. Then craft tools and and a crafting table. Because after that you can make a bed, when night comes, place it down and sleep to make it day. That way you don't have to worry about dying as much. But definitely a small shelter and garden goes a long way. These links may help as well: http://www.minecraft-craftingguide.com/ 1 Quote
