The teacher Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Hello everyone!! It is The Teacher here after a long long time without posting! And now I need your help guys, I have decided to buy a desktop for gaming (and ET is the only game I play) and I have no idea of computers to be honest. So I was wondering could you guys tell me what desktop should I buy? What kind of video card should I get with it? And what kind of monitor? Essentially I am going to put this desktop in my study and use it only for gaming and downloading. I would really appreciate any ideas and please remember I live in England! Though I order on Amazon all the time. Quote
FinZeroX Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 In case you play, and will play, only ET on that build you can go with a cheap solution. Office stuff and ET dont eat much resources. Building your own is always better. Any other requirements? Quote
Dddrgn Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 You definitely want to build one, and you don't need an expensive one for only ET. First, you need to decide on a motherboard - it will be compatible with either AMD or Intel processors, each has it's own pros and cons, so try to do some research on mid-ranged motherboards. Quote
phil21191 Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I'm not sure of your budget but based on your usage something like this. YOUR BASKET 1 x Intel Core i5-4440 3.10GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £139.99 1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 650Ti 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (01G-P4-3652-KR) £99.95 1 x Gigabyte H87-HD3 Intel H87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £80.99 1 x Samsung 120GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TD120BW) £79.99 1 x Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD10EZRX) **SINGLE PLATTER** HDD £53.99 1 x BitFenix Shinobi USB3.0 Gaming Case - Black £49.99 1 x TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38GM1600HC11DC01) £47.99 1 x Antec VP450P 450W '80 Plus' Continuous Power Supply £39.95 1 x Cooler Master Blizzard T2 CPU Cooler £12.98 Total : £619.92 (includes shipping : £11.75). I've left out monitor and operating system and I'm not sure what size you would be after. If you want a slightly cheaper option then the following would be fine for your needs as well. YOUR BASKET 1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 650Ti 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (01G-P4-3652-KR) £99.95 1 x AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6300 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £83.99 1 x ASRock 970 Extreme4 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £79.99 1 x Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD1002FAEX) HDD £76.99 1 x BitFenix Shinobi USB3.0 Gaming Case - Black £49.99 1 x TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38GM1600HC11DC01) £47.99 1 x Antec VP450P 450W '80 Plus' Continuous Power Supply £39.95 1 x Cooler Master Blizzard T2 CPU Cooler £12.98 Total : £505.93 (includes shipping : £11.75). Both builds are 8gb ram, and 1TB storage, the first build I've included an SSD as they make a big difference to boot times, game load times, and system "snappiness" The second offers a cheaper alternative while being able to play most modern games at reasonable settings @ 1920x1080. If you don't wish to build yourself OCUK do some very highly quality prebuilt systems as well. Quote
