Desu
i need xp. badly. though satisfied with ubuntu, i need to sync my ipod with its daily dose of new music. there are ways i could do with ubuntu, but way too complicated. plus, i need to use some xp softwares that linux cant run. so i heard about dual booting where you can choose to run either xp or linux on the starting screen i read some stuff about it, but it just looks like monglian hacking to me. so any help? oh yeah, my ubuntu is installed first. w0nder
burn the ISO to a disk, restart PC, boot to drive, partition say 80% of total space for XP and leave 20% for Ubuntu, you can do this by just selecting size in GB, then start install on the new partition. It is pretty easy.

If I were you I'd follow w0nder's guide personally. Maybe w0nder can give you the link that explained to her how to do it. It probably wouldn't cost that much to get a PC shop to do it for you if you're that worried about f***ing it up.

However, you can start with XP, then get Wubi, which does it all for you.. It will partition a linux for you from within windows with a sexy little GUI for even the most inexperienced noober.. Give that a try.. Just start with XP.. goto google, type Wubi, and go from there.. http://wubi-installer.org/

gigabyte
Simple like this dude said. Lets just say you have a 100GB HD 50% goes to ubuntu and 50% goes to XP. All you have to do really is insert the disk lol. Pretty easy from then on, Just create a new partition for XP with a decent amount of space(+10GB). Linux installation is pretty simple but XP installation is ok not as easy but still pretty simple. Just dont delete the partition where you have ubuntu, Just create a new one. Desu
ok, i will give it a try. but really, it says i need to do crap with grub in terminal, and i dont get a lot of that. i get about the partition part, but rest of the stuff is mongolian to me My school taught me that.. Not a link.. However, you can start with XP, then get Wubi, which does it all for you.. Administrators daredevil Posted January 9, 2010 Administrators Share Posted January 9, 2010 lol just play with grub. Either ways you can add ubuntu entry from xp or xp entry from ubuntu. Did you install ubuntu and xp is gone or u are planning to install one? If you can tell me what you are trying to do i can post easy steps. Pretty much. You just need a freshly made partition of XP, and it will build you another partition for Ubuntu from a sexy interface that requires little to no know how. I think this is the easiest route for trying to accomplish what you want. You can also try partition managers that will delete partitions for you. If you are having issues getting rid of any. Also, if you already have Ubuntu installed, you can always install XP on another partition just like that way I described in the first post. Put XP disk in, boot to disk, follow installation procedures. This is where you can partition space for your XP to go along side your Ubuntu.. But like I said, for the easiest fail proof way, try WUBI... Xfire me if you need any help. I am up ALL night.
