New question... Where am I allowed to start building my hut (or CASTLE!)  :)

Not sure how to stake out a piece of land, nor do I want to infringe on someone else's area.

So to see if land is claimed you take a stick and put it in your direct inventory (meaning you are holding it).  Right click on a block and this will tell you if it has been claimed.  If not it will say 'No one has claimed this block." If it is claimed it will say "This block was claimed by Mediumnachos."  This will also show you the boundary of their claim.  To claim you take your golden shovel (given at spawn or made yourself) and click a square . Then go to the diagonal edge of where you want your claim and click. This will make a rectangle and your claim will be marked with yellow and glowstone blocks. 

 

Note: If you want to claim land and it says its clear but won't let you claim, this usually means that someone has claimed land within or over your boundary.  So always check the borders of your boundary and random spots within it.

Thanks Midnight! Hmm... I might have to go back to the spawn... I remember thinking, "What would I want with a GOLDEN shovel?!" :)

 

Small sidenote: the rail car is missing for accessing the public mine. Maybe make a crate next to the start point, and put a few rail cars in it? :)

The cart has been missing since I first played on the server.

I would recommend going FAR out where there is no one else. (unless you have a friend you want to live by.)

I can help you if you see me on, and I have even made extra places for people.

There was a button for the railcar I thought? I have extras so I can put some there.  And do as Dr said: Go far out.  I have 15 homes and growing because I keep venturing. :)
