Chameleon
I am an avid sky watcher and I know there are more of you out there, so I thought I would share this Summer planets, constellations and a late-month meteor shower should combine to make July a skywatching treat, weather permitting. The Delta Aquarid meteor shower graces the night sky at the end of July, and during the month, the constellations Scorpius and Sagittarius shine, pointing the way to other celestial sights. Death_Reincarnated
From memory the Perseids Meteor Shower (August 11, 12) is one of the biggest and it increases in actuvity every 30 or so years due to one of the comets passing by. Here are some links: http://www.seasky.org/astronomy/astronomy-calendar-2013.html http://www.skyandtelescope.com/observing/highlights/185454662.html I havent been star-gazing for a long time. Bought muself an 8" telescope a while back and have not had the time to use it in the last year or so. Chameleon
Yeah the Perseids is by far the biggest and best every year, last year I was able to see for the first time in my life the firey shooters that I had only ever heard about.. They lit the sky up, it was so amazing.. I try to catch every shower I can.. This is a big year because of the comet ISON is passing by really close sometime around November, might even at some point be as bright as the moon.. Pretty cool stuff! Death_Reincarnated
Sweeet. Yeah last time I went outside from 2-5am to see Perseids. I saw one that broke into several bits like a firework explosion. It was a big one that clearly went through the atmosphere because it left smoke in the air and heard a thundering sound. If ISON is passing by it might mean that there will be an increase in the meteors per hour in the next metero showers - not sure which ones will get affected though lol. Have fun watching it
