Administrators JoeDirt Posted December 12, 2009 Administrators Share Posted December 12, 2009 Depending on the manufacturer there are 3 possible ways of getting into bios, both are achived by either pressing and holding or tapping the F1 or F2 or Delete keys. Once in there there should be a boot menu in there there is a legend telling you how to change the boot order.

There is a graphical interface to the installation as well. I believe you have to select "manual installation" within 10 seconds or so or you will get the TBIWY.. TextBased Install w/ Yast.... I may not be understanding you, but if your graphics card is not supported than you will not be able to use the graphical interface (install wizards for windows users kinda thing) Thus making you use the terminal interface where you will need to know a variety of commands. Are you familiar with a Linux build at all? Are you using this side by side with a server?

You should try Kubuntu or Ubuntu, they are a bit more user friendly and you can get your feet wet with a Linux distro and then explore from there. Like I told Desu, if you have XP or Vista or 7 already installed on a partition, goto google and type "wubi", it is a install wizard based on windows that will install a partition for Linux for you and is good for the beginner. Suse is okay, but I think you would like Ubuntu much better. I am adding you now.

Administrators JoeDirt Posted January 11, 2010 Administrators Share Posted January 11, 2010 if you cannot boot into BIOS or if you cannot change the boot order my professional opinion is to stick with the operating system you already have installed. You are trying to install an operating system that is made for people that already have a working knowldge of linux which you do not, even if you got it installed you would still need to install the drivers and thats a whole different story in linux. Ubuntu is pretty easy to use but again if you cannot figure out how to change the boot order then you wont get anywhere, again some drivers will come with the operating system, but most wireless driver you will have to install manually or utilize the ndiswrapper.
