Ol Smoke Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Years ago when we had DSL and modems and we were going to gate into COD to play, it was advisable to do several quick refreshes, of the server you selected, before you actually connected. There were those that said it would show the actual line condition of the nodes you were going through. So we would select our server, then do several quick refreshes and watch the ping times. When you got the lowest one, then you would gate into the server through that pathway. It seemed to work back then. But today, with the broadband the way it is, does this still work? I do a quick refresh and find that my ping is usually right around a 100ms. But once in a while I will notice that it is 130ms or slightly higher. So I do a quick refresh, until I find one under 100ms. The reason I bring this up, is that last night there were several guys running over 500ms at times. Some were even having connection interrupts. So if you have these problems maybe doing a quick refresh of the ping before you log in could get you a better connection. I would like to have some real feedback on this topic. Has anyone else ever done this task? Quote
UAdave Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I've never done this before. I usually join from xfire though. I'll give it a try tonight and see if my pings hold in game. Quote
Dak Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Great tip smoke... if it works. Will try it tonight. Congrats on getting the tags! Quote
EmtHipple Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 yes smoke I do this every time I join and it seems to make a difference in connection stability. or it could just be me and congratulations on the trial membership Quote
Guardian Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Well I tried this, but it doesn't really work always. When I'm in my high ping period it can still reach up to 800, which is bad. So I join in with 120 (normal for me) and end up playing with 400-800. Quote
