300 watts power supply

Ok, am planning to upgrade video card and seeking another opinion on this if you may.

Could anyone confirm if 300 watts powered desktop is suitable and/or satisfactory enough to power or have GTX 670 or gtx680 added to the desktop? Saying 670 or 680 coz at the moment, there is no confirmation which one is available yet though I read that gtx670 is cheaper by performance wise but I need to confirm market availability yet. Everything here is scarce where I am located atm.

From the website, gtx670 requires a minimum 500 watts...but it also says there that

4 - Not applicable to OEM or System Builder configurations - contact system manufacturer for more details. Minimum PSU requirements are based on estimated total system power. Lower power configurations are possible using lower total power system configurations (CPU, Storage, Memory).

[code]

In view of power consumption, the only one that is soon to be added to the desktop (so far with current purchase plan) is the nvidia card, no sooner plans yet to upgrade 4GB RAM or mboard. I would soon have gt mouse but I dont think that would consume much power. Also, I have read that PCI 3.0 is backwards compatible with PCI 2.0 which is the one that I have. So probably and hopefully I would not have an issue plugging the video card.

Atm, my concern is putting power to nvidia card with current psu that I have. Do I really need to insert power lines to gtx670 or plugging the card to PCI slot would do just fine? Apology for ignorance as it has been long since I play with combo :)

PS

No plans to change casing too

I have seen systems running i7 overclocked + 670 using 370watt

+ some estimated loss of performances over the years I would say 500-550watt is a safe bet.

A-brand psu of course.

Yes, you really need to plugin some connectors to the 670 for power (max out of pci slot is 75watt I thought => not sure though)

pci3.0 and pci 2.0 makes (almost) no difference and is indeed perfect backwards compatible => personal experience with amd 7870.

What are your other systems specs (cpu, ram, ...)

ps. I consider the 660ti the better buy over the 670 or 680 , but well good luck with your new stuff :P

PCI Express x16 slot max. 75 Watt

6 pol. plug max. 75 watt

8 pol. plug max 150 watt

max. 300 watt for a videocard (375 watt with 2 x 8 pol. plug, but not official)

If I buy 600 watts, do I need to change casing too? Do 500 or 600 watts psu are much bigger/wider in dimension size compared to 300 watts? Im not sure if 500 or 600 would fit into my current casing below, not much but this is where my ET begun anyway :) Sorry asking inter connected questions

Intel Pentium E5700 Dual Core at 3GHz

5GB RAM

Nvidia GT430 2GB (addon)

c02171143.jpg

its specs here if needed. The only thing added is the old gt 430 and few RAM.

I am trying to avoid building a complete new rig (not in the plan so far), or even getting a new casing. I just like to upgrade the internal parts as much as possible

PS

I cant attached JPEG here, idk.

Well, good luck building in a OEM case (hole shitlord, I will never attempt to do that anymore)

+ I wouldn't trust the psu used by HP anyway to be honest

Ok thanks for all the help. From the power consumption calculator, I have to get a higher PSU, haist.

Don't be cheap

Get an a-brand one, these things can fry your whole rig

A-brans: seasonic, corsair, be quiet, ...

Depending how many you're planning to spend in this psup Pinoy.. The Bequit! seems to me a bit expensive.. For this price you can get this one http://www.amazon.co...411534&sr=1-111 who is probably the best on this website and for less you can get this one http://www.amazon.co...53410560&sr=1-4 who is better, more power and will allow you to overclock without prob (since I know you have already started to OC the USB slot of your mouse and will maybe do the same for the rest).. CS series of Corsair is not the best for that and the new GS (game series) makes lot of noise and some other prob..

Some psup from this website:

http://www.amazon.co...3411232&sr=1-23

http://www.amazon.co...3411404&sr=1-58

http://www.amazon.co...3411606&sr=1-17

edit: funny I got 824W use predicted from the BeQuiet website!!! Even for a max (but a calculation for 90% of use in reality on this website), it seems to me over rated.. From my calculation, for everything at max of use, should not cross the 600W.. Perhaps a way to push people to buy higher series products, so spend more money for something useless..

lol don't worry about usb devices :P

But that psu is a more than decent one (not exceptional good, but those are expensive) and modular.

It being modular will really help with building in an oem case.

Just took a look at the GTX680 it seems the GTX660TI outperforms it, also the 660TI is cheaper.

This is of course not taking into consideration the resolution specifications, check your resolution you can buy a cheaper card for a better gain this way.
