Okay i know i'm not anywhere near being the best player at the game. However i would like some tips on killing people faster. I don't know if it's lag related or what but people seem to kill me faster then i kill them. Is this due to me putting my rounds on there center mass instead of head? Also what is your favorite class to play.

I usually play medic, otherwise I stand no chance. Or engineer, when there's too many medics and no one is going for the object. I'm not a great aimer, I'm trying to get my accuracy to 30%, which is still pretty low, but I think it's advisable to aim for the head as much as possible. Try using the lines on the walls to get your crosshair at head level, use crouching for a steadier aim, spectate the best aimers and read some of the tutorials on our site.

This one for instance.

Well, first of all, you can die in many ways (1on1, 2vs1, from behind/side, explosive weapons or mines, etc.)

1on1 is mostly about technical skill (but also a bit of brains, when it comes to using objects as cover, etc.) 2vs1 and backshoot, well, you should try to avoid it, but you can't always

So if you want to die less you should improve both your technique and your tactics

If you die in 1on1 it means they gave you damage faster than you did (quite obvious) giving damage fast is about accuracy and headshots, but if you don't move well and you are a sitting (or worse, a standing :P) duck, their accuracy will be higher as well.

to hit:

- shoot first and hit first, possibly the head, because later it will be harder with weapon spread and random bullets.

- preshoot if possible / appropriate (again, hitting first), and don't charge forward like rambo, wait for them to lose their patience and attack, play defensively when necessary

- try to hit the head if you can, but remember that getting a bodyshot is better than not hitting at all, so don't aim too high especially in long range, you have to keep the hits going

- crouch to control weapon spread, especially in long range

- always aim at head level even when you are not fighting, aim in advance at common camping spots, if by chance there is an enemy you will be aiming at the right place already. Learn the maps well.

to avoid hits and reduce their acc:

- move in a way that's not so predictable

- hit them a lot and hit first, because you will give them knockback making it harder for them to give hs, and if they have a bad internet they can even fail hitting you back because of prediction errors

make sure you have a perfect mouse control, with everything properly setup (sensitivity, etc.) otherwise your aim will never be good

Follow what Sunlight just said and you will be good to go in due time, practice more and more.

Config wise, you might want to look at your ET settings as well, do some config experiment and see how your accuracy can be more increased or at least survive a fight longer

- smaller aiming cursor

- with good color of aiming cursor

- without cursor pulsing

- without gun flashes

- without blood flash

- minimize or without hit markings on the wall

- if possible without grass/ snow fall/ rain

- good gaming maxpacket, and rate values

- smooth movement and nice mouse sensitivity

- good mouse polling rate

- smooth mouse pad or something nice to put your mouse over it

- if possible nice FPS with nice video card

and more, continue more improvement where there is possibility to improve :)

When you experiment with different mouse settings, you might want to see the effect to your mouse and aiming by doing something like this

recently I am playing without crosshair as training (well actually no crosshair only when I shoot, I bind +attack and alpha 0, -attack and alpha 1) this way I force myself not to spray and pray, and I focus better while I'm under fire as well because if I start shooting before I aim my xhair is invisible and I fail.

I think it's a good training

When you fight 1vs1, it's beneficial to have a wide field of view. The best you can have is with /cg_fov 120. The smallest one is /cg_fov 90 (then you can see farther).

I have the following binds:

/bind mwheelup cg_fov 90

/bind mwheeldown cg_fov 120

So, I mostly play with fov 120, then I have a good view, but when I want to shoot someone far away, I use mwheelup.

A good thing for getting more headshots is to ensure m_pitch is at least 2/3 of what m_yaw is set to. In my case I use a pretty low sensitivity: seta m_pitch " 0.0111" and

seta m_yaw "0.01". (somehow my pitch sensitivity is actually much lower than yaw, but this is what is written in my configs. maybe the blank of m_pitch " " has something to do with it)

If your graphics card is good enough and especially if you have a 120hz monitor, use /com_maxfps 125. Even if you only have a 60hz monitor, you'll be able to move a tiny little bit faster.

Good luck

There was also a time as part of setting experimentation, like what Sunlight had just shared, when shooting, my weapon disappears and re-appears back after releasing the attack mouse button. This somehow clears portion of the view being blocked by drawing the gun to the screen. One disadvantage of this I guess is when you are reloading, and you cant see or timed in the gun reload during a gun fight, that scenario tends to give you a feeling that the gun is jammed, out of bullet and/or doesnt shoot in time coz you are not seeing the gun yet :P I removed that setting since.

Currently, when under crouched mode, my cg_fov changes or kind of zoom in, hope that adds little accuracy somehow on long distance shots. A bit helpful at times.
