Midnight
I wasnt sure where this should be posted, but I dropped my ipod touch (screen side down) this evening and stepped on it. It broke and now I need to get the screen replaced. Any suggestions? Any help would be nice.

Antichrist
What a headache lol The owners where I work have friends that all have Ipods... I've had to work on 3 so far because they broke 2 screens, and and the last one was dropped in a pool, (Logic boards on the latest model will cost you $300-$400.. so don't drop yours in water) It depends on your model. Some screens can easily be replaced, the cost of the screen depends on the model though. And most places include a tool kit along with your screen purchase. The latest model has the screen and digitizer as one unit, previous models had seperate screens and digitizers. If you're somewhat mechanically inclined, you can easily replace the screen yourself, but you have to be extremely careful, there are ribbon cables inside that are VERY fragile, and the screws are tiny, and easy to lose. I highly suggest a clean work area, and take the screws and parts out 1 at a time, and lay them out together. A digital camera to take pictures before you remove parts isn't a bad idea either. I can also help with any questions you may have as well, but a picture of your phone pointing to parts in question or whatever, would be extremely helpful. There are Youtube videos with tutorials on how to replace the screens for your specific model as well. And you might also be able to find a local place that'll do the repair for you, I know I've seen some people who do it, but they charge $100 or so just for labor.. Is it just your glass that's broken? (You see clearly, but it's cracked on the outside) Is your digitizer damaged? (Does not respond to touch commands, but be careful with broken glass so you don't slice your finger) Is your LCD damaged? (Distorted image/no image on the screen)
Midnight
Wow thanks for the amazing info. I am not mechanically inclined but I am sure I can learn everything. I have an Ipod 3rd generation and it is just the screen because the touch portion still works and the screen is clear underneath. I had sent my last Ipod to somewhere (can't remember) and it was 20 bucks to have it repaired. Except my last iPod I fried in my car and was unfixable. I will post a picture when possible, probably when I get home from work. And when you say most places, what are these places? I live in Vegas and I know there is an Apple store in town, but I am not willing to pay an outrageous price to overzealous geeks.
ajnl
My brother's iphone 3GS' screen broke, but he ended up buying a new phone instead of replacing the screen, since it was more worth while. So you should check to see which way is better (money wise)
Antichrist
It sounds like only your glass is broken, and that your LCD screen and digitizer are both undamaged. A quick search on Amazon using "3g glass replacement kit" Shows me several results that include tools, for under $10. It does appear that the digitizer and glass are one unit on that model phone, but the LCD is seperate. If you shop around you could possibly find it for even less $.
