w0nder Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 So I was told that I will have about 75Mbs Down, and 20mbs up. I can get more if need be, but this is what they offer @ the price I want to pay.. Would this work? I think it would be neat to use my PC as a test server.. You can have LMS one week, and Stopwatch the next. Make people happy. Also you can use it for testing new server ideas whatever.. Quote

You can also use netlimiter to monitor how much traffic server uses. xfire me by tonight and we can test it. The only downside I can see is "lag" cos home internet users don't have 100Mbps port and hence resulting high latency or high amount of packet loss. But in the end nothing wrong in testing. Quote

They asked me what I would use it for, and I said game servers, so they said I would have to get a business line. So would that help with the lag? Quote

LOL business lines are costlier Ask them the price difference. You can easily donate that much money and we can get new server if thats what all are looking for. Quote

Well as per my school I have to do an independent project where I set up some type of server and use 5 different configurations. I was told an ET server would work. The price is not horrid.. It is like 40 more than I am already paying a month. I am supposed to be getting an understanding of ports and how they work, and security flaws. I have to post 5 configurations, 2 of which have to be unsecure configs, with notes on why and what, and the other 3 to be secure and notes on why and what. I did not really know what else to do to get hands on with this matter.. I could set up Apache and MySQL and fux with that, but that just seems boring, plus I do not even know where to begin there.
