I love TF2 but I find myself playing on many different servers in a week with about four I go to regularly. There is one that is always full and even if I wait for 20 minutes, I often don't get in.

- 24/7 2fort/Turbine

Don't get me wrong the other server is fun but it doesn't get the attention it deserves; so I've been thinking about how F|A could expand in this game. If there was a 2fort/turbine lobby I bet it would take off within two weeks and allow F|A to promote the mixbag server. While I know that this would cost money, I think it may be a good idea to pick up the people F|A and Crasher needs to expand our TF2 membership. My thought is we can have some popular lobbies on one of the most popular games on steam. just my 2 cents ^___^

There is also the thought that by having a dedicated mods/lobbies on TF2, there could also be more possibilities for picking up people that would want to host with F|A.

Wouldn't it be nice if instead of having to organize a play-date on TF2 for F|A, we could simply log on to it and play on our servers as we wish?

(ps that egypt map is kick ass lol)

You're already welcome to join the server as you wish, me and DJ and some foreign people played 3v3 today earlier. Until dare talks to me via xfire or PM I can't add any mods/plugins to the server.

Yes but I'm an engineer/medic most of the time. I like TF2 because I can play support and I only really have fun in lobbies that are populated. When I play tf2 with my other friends i cant get them to play 2v2 or 3v3. They want action packed games without waiting 20 minutes or 1 or 2 other people to join.

I stand beside what I said though, 24/7 2fort/turbine will get attention and be filled and allow for possible expansion for F|A in TF2.

Please elaborate:

My suggestion is to get a 24/7 server up. I'll camp it and tbh it will take off and have people in it.

24/7 2Fort/Turbine. I highly reccomend this server with !votescramble and basic class limits.

and

People like dedicated game modes and 24/7 servers.

OK! I will elaborate on a rather massive scale ^__^

Team Fortress 2 has a rather large and diverse community. There are many mods and certain certain settings that are favoured by many. While there are few maps and game modes, the gameplay is rich and lends itself to individual play style and goals. My opinion is that TF2 can and will become a big part if F|A. The following piece explains how this can happen, as I can foresee it.

There are, arguably, 10 different popular game modes in Team Fortress 2: Capture the flag, Normal Control Point, Attack/Defend Control Point, Territorial Control, Payload, Payload Race, King of the Hill, Trading, Medieval, Saxton Hale mod, and Arena. Each game mode can support a full lobby, and in fact, will thrive from having a full lobby. (I excluded some because I have never played them, zombies, TD and highlander)

Here is a link to the wiki for each specific gamytype where each map can be easily accessed from http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Maps

Here is a screen shot at 6am EST on May the 8th, 2012

As you can see, the vast majority of these lobbies have dedicated gamemodes and/or maps. I think this is one of the biggest variable to having a popular server on TF2. People want to play the gametype and map that they want. By having an all map/game mode server (which can be popular, although it seems to be much less likley), you lose the core audience of people that want to play specific game mode or map because: the weapons they use, the style they play, the goals they have and the people they play with want to know what they are going to be playing. Most players do like variety, don't get me wrong. I'm simply suggesting that people have different taste, so each player has a unique set of servers in their favourites list.

The name Team Fortress implies just what it should, it is a team based game that is harder to play on a smaller scale. Each class has a counter and each counter, usually, has a block. On game types like CTF it is important to ensure that the server isn't filled with 12 snipers on one team trying to get their headshot count on their strange weapons up; some people feel that it is important not to have a team filled with spies as it is one of the easiest ways to clear a server in TF2. Given that a serv-op wants to keep the lobby populated, many have installed class limits based on the game type and map. Maps that have a large open area can support more snipers, maps that have narrow choke points to the objective can't support many engineers. I really have no suggestion as to which class limits should be adheard to but the max on snipers is almost a must.

Ok I think that's enough b******t (I did mean everything I said though). After seeing this server in shambles, I have some personal suggestions for the cause of expanding F|A in TF2:

  • We need too pick a game mode, one for each server. Title it with whatever setting/map or specific game mode is chosen, and then camp the hell out of it.
  • GET HLSTATS UP AND RUNNING! It is just that extra incentive to get players to return.
  • Try searching for our current server in the "internet" tab, not favourites... It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. The more specific the server is, the more specific the tags can be.
  • Move away from the idea that there is one day a week where people can play on it and know that other members are going to be there. Follow the example of Gubbi and Joker, they are constantly getting players to play on a European HC mix server inCoD4. CoD4 has seen its prime and was never F2P, yet F|A can create a server and populate it against the odds. We can get F|A to become known in the TF2 community, but before we set any trends, we need to follow the taboo's of the current community to get started and recognized.
  • Like W:ET, its F2P, but its developers still support it. 95% of us should be able to play TF2 meaning we should have more than enough people to start moderating.
  • Give players the ability to vote. Until we have a healthy mod base in TF2, give the players some basic liberties. (votemute and votescramble would be the ones that I would recommend)

My final and main suggestion for a server is this. Get one going with one or two maps. I say CTF with instant respawn on 2fort and turbine. These are small maps that can support a small number of players and a large number of players. Tag it as a 24/7 server along with CTF and other settings that are not standard (or vanilla). Get as many members as we can to camp it. Keep in mind that the title is not included in the search parameters but that is the part people are to use to confirm/deny their assurances or doubts about the search results. While we are recruiting, taking it out of the title may give some room to catch the eye of a player who can't get into his favourite 24/7 or ctf server that is full.

Eventually the goal would be to have at least a couple servers with a dedicated TF2 community, then we could try an all-game-type server. Untill then it's obvious that we need to change a few things to get the ball rolling.

Alrigthy! What I am thinking is:

If possible we will try to set up this:

1. One server with current settings which crasher is working on. We will try to set up web panel and FTP access for him so he can update the server and add ons as he sees fit.

2. Another server where you can set up game specific mod which u think is more popular and u handle it.

We try to make both server popular.. this way players and members have 2 servers.. one game mod/map specific and another one general one or as crasher will set it up.

I will talk to kai and try to figure out something good ... Please be patient it might take couple of days.. while we work on it and get it all running.

sounds good!

I'll keep in touch!

p.s. I've been job hunting so my activity hasn't been the greatest but I have a couple open days ahead of me :)

Please.

I also want to state that getting a server populated is a bit harder than getting CoD/ET servers populated. More than half the TF2 servers are empty or full with regulars already picking where they play. If we're going to camp the server fine, but we need to be dedicated to it.
