Wizbang Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Just wondering if there is anyone out there who is an aquarist like myself. Quote
Antichrist Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 here Um.. pretty sure he's asking if anyone else shares his interest in aquariums, not people that have the zodiac sign aquarius. And not me.. although I do keep 3 shubunkins in one of my outside ponds Quote
brauning Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Um.. pretty sure he's asking if anyone else shares his interest in aquariums, not people that have the zodiac sign aquarius. eh, yes you're rihgt, seem i was too sleepy when i watched this section in last night @ Wizbang, sorry for responding here. I don't have interest in the aquarium. Quote
KevinBacon Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 The aquarium in Monterey, California here is world renowned. I've visited it several times. Gonna take my son there when I feel he can appreciate it. Quote
sicsiksix Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I have a tiny little aquarium on my desk: Does this count? Quote
Wizbang Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 Yea 6 it counts. I can't get the picture of my tank to the post. I have a 20 gallon saltwater tank right now. Quote
rolf Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 (edited) I used to have a subtropic aquarium, 80x40x40cm. When I got it, it contained about 15 platy, a load of apple snails and a few cardinal tetra. Eventually, it evolved by buying and dying to a few cardinal, a few corydoras leucomelas, some albino L-numbers and a few Silvertip tetra. It used to be like this: October 2006, without the L-numbers and Silvertip tetra's. And the other cute fishies are hidden However, I didn't do much with it anymore, other than feeding and the necessary cleanup (which, both, I didn't do as often as necessary). So, I gave the fishes away and sold the aquarium when I switched to a room without the space for an aquarium. I sometimes miss it, but it's nice to not have to take care of it at all times. Maybe when I have more space, I'll get an larger (sea?)aquarium back edit: So you use the imperial system... 80x40x40 = 32"x16"x16" = 128L = 33 gallon Edited August 5, 2011 by rolf Quote
Jefke Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Had one but somehow the water turned green Tried everything to fixed it but failed over and over again eventually all my fish died :'( The only one I remember the name is: neon tetra ^^ Quote
sicsiksix Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Yea 6 it counts. Yay! Anyway, I've been wanting to set up a small saltwater tank in my office, but i've heard that they're a real pain to maintain. How hard is it to maintain salinity and whatnot on a saltwater tank? I've heard that the bigger the tank, the easier it is, but I'm an aquarium noob so I have no idea. Quote
Wizbang Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 I started with a 5 gallon. Its not the salinity that's hard to care for. Just make sure to do water changes every week. There is a test kit you can get to see levels of ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites. Now I have a 20 gallon fish only with live rock (FOWLR) tank with a humu trigger, fosters hawkfish, and tomato clownfish. Quote
