Antichrist Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 You covered everyone that has inspired me on drums, and more... A few not listed: My first influence as a kid: Lars Ulrich - Metallica. A couple current influences: Steve Felton - Mushroomhead Tomas Haake - Meshuggah Quote
FiveMagic Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Definiltely Dave Mustaine for me, he went to hell and made it back alive. He also has some of the most kick ass riffs i've heard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-twpY_XQyg Quote
docwarren Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 I started out as a drummer in high school and played drums for a metal band called Misty Rocks. I played for our demo and left in the middle of recording a studio album because I saw our manager was going to screw us big time on several levels. They went on and had a video air on Headbanger's Ball on time. The manager screwed them and killed the group in less than a year. Never got back in another group full time, but gotta be thankful for the manager showing me that it was going to be cut throat and very hard to get ahead in the industry. As far as drummers... First off..... props for your listing Buddy Rich mine are .... Peter Criss Pert Bonham Tico Torres Tommy Lee Lars Ulrich Don Henley Phil Collins and if I had a kit now I would love to match Joey J. Since I focus now on guitar, I started out in early 90's, but my guitar influences were older and alot of country.... Joe Walsh (the slide work is amazing) Richie Sambora (blues and rock compressed to perfection) Kenny Wayne Shepperd Clint Black Joe Diffie Garth Brooks Brooks & Dunn (got to jam w/ Kix on the tour bus once) Brad Paisley (he grew up across the river from me and knew him in high school) James Root Steven Vai SRV (but I can't play anywhere near like him) Neil Shaun Ronnie Kaluger (fmr studio guy) Eric Vucelich (fmr studio guy) for past 2 or 3 years I have been alot into playing drop B tuning stuff and so Slipknot and James Root stuff is what I am into currently. Will have to post a pic of me from last Halloween when I was made up like James. Don't know how they can stand the masks. Makeup I can see but the masks are tough to work in. Quote
FiveMagic Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 I'm Surprised none of you Drummers mentioned Dave Lombardo (His Music isn't the most appealing lol) And yes, props for Buddy Rich. Quote
vke Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 For me it is probably a huuuuge list. I listen to every kind of music. Jack Johnson Dan Auerbach - The Black Keys Elliot Smith Dave Grohl Armistead Burwell Smith IV - Pinback Rob Crow - Pinback William Fitzsimmons - Iron and Wine Joe Fruscianti - Red Hot Chili Peppers, but I love his solo stuff too Joshua James - Lives a few miles from me, owns a local venue John Denver Quote
