An aurora radio emission from exoplanet "Beta Pictoris b" has been detected by astronomers in South Africa's MeerKAT Radio Telescope Array

This planet is a gas giant localized about 64 light years away from Earth.

Researchers detected rapid, recurring and highly circularly polarized radio bursts along with persistent background emissions in the 0.85 to 3.5 GHz frequency range.

The emissions indicate a local planetary magnetic field strength of at least 1,250 gauss (1.25 kG)—thousands of times stronger than Earth's surface magnetic field and marking the first direct magnetic field measurement for an exoplanet.

Individual bursts appeared to repeat in intervals of roughly 8 hours, matching the known rotation period of Beta Pictoris b which has a mass roughly 10 to 12 times that of Jupiter.
