Another year has passed and here we go with the 2026 hurricane season for the Southeast Pacific and Atlantic ocean.

Last year category 5 Melissa hurricane formed at the end of the season and was marked as the most deadly (95 deaths related) and destructive (8.8k million USD) for the season. It was formed late October and went through several Caribbean countries.

Now this year we expect a bit more activity at the Pacific side, seems we have forecasted meteorological phenomenon "El Niño" to become stronger than the last years and could produce a "Super Niño" event, whats does that mean? a surely not favorable situation, more heat that produce intense rains which leads to flooding and other problems, like hurricanes.

Its already stated that 2026 was the 2nd highest sea surface temperature on record.

Couple of weeks ago the names of this season were released and we see more possible named systems on the Pacific with 24 against 20 for the Atlantic.

Season has started, Amanda dissipated in open waters and we have 2 more systems right now.

Good amount of rain expected for much part of Mexico with tropical storm Boris remnants.

We can see disrupted tropical storm Cristina system at El Salvador, it will make landfall tomorrow there but affects more countries.

Red and yellow colors means higher cloud tops.

Has been quiet for the last couple of weeks but its getting a bit more active both Pacific and Atlantic side.

"Cristobal" has formed in the north Atlantic ocean currently as tropical storm, will reach the Azores islands by the weekend.

And we see 2 more disturbances in the tropical Atlantic having 50% chances of cyclone formation in the next couple of days.

Seems those will be heading the Lesser Antilles also by the weekend:

At the Pacific side "Potential Tropical Cyclone One C" will reach the Hawaiian islands by late friday, bringing heavy rainfall, high winds and dangerous surf.

"Potential Tropical Cyclone One C" became new tropical storm "Lala" according to the Hurricane Hunter that investigated the system earlier today.

Still dont know why NHC is using that name since is not in the 'official' list and theres not much info from that in the web.

Anyway, "Lala" is now strengthening and will become a category 1 hurricane before arriving to southeast of Hawaii islands by Saturday as its WNW movement has slowed down a bit.

More activity at the Pacific side but none oppose a threat to human lifes, except the constant rain at Hawaii's big island cause of tropical storm "Moke".

Which I learned that the Central Pacific has a different shorter name list than the Atlantic and Southeast Pacific's but its obviously less popular 😅

Akoni, Ema, Hone, Iona, Keli, Lala, Moke, Nolo, Olana, Pena, Ulana, Wale

Some names related to Pacific ocean, e.g 'Akoni' means the "brave" or "strong" in hawaiian

More activity in the Pacific side and fortunately none of them have been a threat to human life, except for dangerous category 5 hurricane "Lowell" that made a close approach to Kauai island on September 9th.

Right now we have tropical storm "Norbert" spinning in open waters along with new tropical depression "Fifteen-E"

Both will not pose any threat to land.

More activity in the Pacific side with "Nolo", "Odalys" and "Polo"

Nolo is upgrading from tropical storm to hurricane by tomorrow and will make a close approach to Hawaii, Odalys will continue in open waters and Polo will be reaching mexican territory by next week,

Actually the category 5 hurricane Polo has impacted with some tropical storm conditions in Southwest Mexico this days, Hurricane Hunters reported max. winds up to 150mph.

We kinda lucky a high pressure was sitting north Mexico so the hurricane never approached land, still a threat for the northern states of Mexico and maybe Texas later though.

Getting close to the end of the season and we have seen definitely all the activity in the Pacific side except for 8 tropical storms in the Atlantic side with no hurricanes so far.

Since more than thirthy years ago we havent seen hurricanes in the Atlantic side on September, the other 3 times were on: 1994, 1962 and 1972.

The 'El Niño' which is actually recently called 'El Super Niño', for its intensity, its directly involved with this weird absence of storms.

Now we have hurricane "Rachel" in the Pacific side which has been very strong in the last couple of days but has decrease its strenght and now it stands on category 1 hurricane.

It will weaken into tropical storm before it mades its landfall in northern mexican state of Baja California, interests in US states of New Mexico and Arizona would need attention too.

Hurricane 'Rachel' path for the next days, it will downgrade to tropical storm tomorrow morning.

On the Atlantic Side we have a new system in the Gulf as tropical depression "Nine" that could cause some attention since its forecasted to strengthen quickly in the upcoming days.

Eventually it will become the next hurricane in the list as "Isaias", it could make landfall between Mississippi and Alabama by the end of the week.

But a lot of other states will be affected with the post-tropical system:

Tropical Depression 'Nine' path the next days, forecasted to become hurricane by Thursday 7th of October, 2026.

Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida like category 2 hurricane and will affect most of eastern US in the next couple of days as a post-tropical cyclone.

Simon as a powerful category 4 hurricane, a monster that will make landfall tomorrow in southwest mexican state of Jalisco

image.png.4bc37e1ad0dae8d951462c87c964f91e.png

Rachel will make landfall at northern mexican state of Baja California and will enter US territory later as tropical storm.

Whats happening to Simon? first a major hurricane that weakens on its path to a little category 1 system on southwest mexican coast but right now NOAA is detecting re-strengthening to a maybe category 2 hurricane that will weaken again before making landfall by 2nd time at Baja California and tropical storm Trudy appearing just south with further strengthening in the next couple of days with a similar path and category to Simon's

Could be the last ones for the season, tropical storm "Vance" forms in the southeast Pacific and sub-tropical storm "Josephine" at northwest Atlantic

Vance forecast to rapidly intensify to hurricane going northwest close to Mexico while Josephine will get away from US coast in the next couple of days.
