tgr'JaFFa Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Morning all, Strangest bug I have ever encountered (& I've been around for years ?) When I start any map there is always a 2-3 second lag spike that prevents me from moving or using vsays. It's always within the 1st 10-20 seconds of the map regardless of it being the 1st map or 12th I've played. Eg. @14:41 : Supply @14:46 : Adlernest @19:50 : Bremen_final @29:40 : Caen_4 Does this happen to anyone else playing Legacy with Silent? JaFFa Quote
Solution tgr'JaFFa Posted September 16, 2025 Author Solution Posted September 16, 2025 Howdoooo peeps, I meant to post this sooner but forgot, oops. For anyone who is interested or having the same issue I now have the answer (culprit) :- NordVPN Thanks to El! for pointing me in the right direction. Quote
Administrators daredevil Posted September 16, 2025 Administrators Posted September 16, 2025 Thanks for the update. How NordVPN was causing the issue on first few seconds? If it's VPN, it should be a problem consistently? I would have thought more on GPU driver OR Hard drive where you have IO activity during map loading. This is interesting use case. Quote
Armagedonyx Posted September 16, 2025 Posted September 16, 2025 I have on Jay 1 server a similar issue as well even if my VPN is deactivated, but it's not as frequent as your case situation now solved. Sometimes, my game decides that's it's the perfect timing to freeze for a few seconds and almost always during the most crucial moments (usually when I'm in plan sight for enemies to shoot at me), which is annoying. @daredevilwhat could be the way to solve this issue ? Administrators daredevil Posted September 16, 2025 Administrators Posted September 16, 2025 Few things: 1) Monitoring your HD IO - if you are seeing the spikes on it. 2) Don't use mechanical hard drives. SSD or nvme is way to go. 3) Sound / GPU drivers 4) Check if any process is throttling your CPU. 5) Use ETL if anyone is still using 2.6b. For some users 2.6b still works good but ETL is matured now and worth a try for reluctant users. 6) Increase your sound and hunkmegs both to 256 Mb min. For AMD GPU's: Get good version of driver which has less openGL issues. 1 Quote
nicomo0k Posted September 19, 2025 Posted September 19, 2025 the same thing happened to me a few years ago when I installed ETL on a specific SSD drive and the ET assets to a different mechanical drive. The latter would fall asleep and it would create these little lags here and there when it had to spin again. The solution was to copy the assets on the same drive as the ETL install and I have had no issue since. Could be something entirely different of course but if you are using a configuration like the one I described, it will be an easy fix. @tgr'JaFFa man I played regularly on the The Grow Room a long time ago, loved it there and I was wondering if you guys were still active (Sir Sux-A-Lot here, now going by david ghetto) Quote
