Your graphics card should have 2 or 3 displayport connections, next to where your hdmi port is on the graphics card.

If you have a display with GSYNC technology, you need a DP cable for it to work. If it doesn't have GSYNC, I honestly understand that it's almost the same whether you use one cable or the other (some say DP is better, you can try it if you want). The difference is whether you can use GSYNC (you need the monitor and the GPU; the GPU has it; it remains to be seen if your display has it too).

If your screen has GSYNC, after purchasing the cable, make sure in the Nvidia CFG control panel that GSYNC is activated, there you will be able to see the difference in the game.

If your monitor runs at 144Hz it means your cable is fine

 

Old cable would make it stuck at 60Hz

And not all HDMI can run 144, need version 1.3 or higher

I had the same card, its Displayport 1.4 😉
