MarkItZero Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Hi to Everyone, It’s nice to be back to gaming after a 4 year hiatus. My gamertag is MarkItZero. Years ago my first tag was “Wingnut” but I felt I had to change it after I found out, in 2001, that famous film director Peter Jackson’s production company was called Wingnut Films. I really didn’t want anyone to get confused and think I was the director of The Lord of the Rings. All those fan questions! “MarkItZero” is a reference to a scene in another movie, The Big Lebowski. I’m sure I don’t need to explain this to the Fearless Assassins, but in case there’s someone who hasn’t seen it: The Big Lebowski is a bowling movie. In this exciting sports drama, Jeff Bridges, John Goodman and Steve Buscemi are professional league bowlers caught in a tense battle of wills. The drama plays out over several days during league play leading up to the championship game. Bridges and Goodman deliver powerful performances as combatants who square off against each other in the lanes and in life in order to learn just what “over the line” means to each of us. Rotten Tomatoes 99%, Metacritic 2% (Yeah, nah…I’m just joking.) MarkItZero has been my gamertag since 2004, but I’ve been playing video games my whole life. I started gaming very early with the Atari 2600 in 1978 and since then I’ve owned most of the gaming consoles the world has brought us. I’ve skipped a few: the Intellivision, the 3DO, the Genesis, the Saturn, Nintendo’s Wii. I completely forgot about the ColecoVision, the NeoGeo and the Jaguar. And I’ve always had a gaming PC, they’ve just gotten first bigger, and now smaller. And oddly, they’ve always been about the same price. I remember the day I got my first SIMM card that had 1 MEGABYTE of RAM. My most recent desktop has 32 GIGABYTES. Thirty years have passed between these two PCs. And I’ve played a lot of games! Most of my game time has been single-player and I’ve enjoyed playing solo over the years. But some of the best gaming memories I have are of the many hours in multiplayer team death-matches with players all over the world. Very often when I’m in a game someone will see my gamer tag and let me know they, too, are fans of The Big Lebowski. My tag attracts a lot of movie fans, but a lot are not and these players often don’t know how get my attention. I’ve had people call me Mark, Mark It, Zero, Number 71 … but the best times are when another fan of The Big Lebowski is playing because then, inevitably, I see or hear someone yell, “DUDE!!!” (Or El Duderino if they’re not into the whole brevity thing. If you’re a fan you’ll get it. If not…you gotta watch the movie!) I’ve seen other “Introduce Yourself” posts on the Fearless Assassin’s. And in a lot of them the person lists their favorite games. If I had to pick my top 10 favorite games…it would be very difficult. Can I pick the top 100? Consoles vs. Windows? Best of each decade? My favorite online game has been, by far, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I’ve loved playing pretty much every game of the Call of Duty franchise, and my favorite genre has been the FPS since the days of Wolfenstein and Doom. There have been many of those on both PC and consoles. Playing in online death matches in Call of Duty has given me some of the best moments of gaming, and hours and hours of fun. It is hard to pick just a handful of games out of all of the satisfying titles over the years. Here’s a list of some of the best games ever according to me, and the ones I’ve spent the most time playing, for many I list the series. In no particular order: GoldenEye, Donkey Kong Country, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Smash Bros, Jak & Daxter, Medal of Honor, Black, Tomb Raider, X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Half-Life 2, Portal, Bioshock, Call of Duty, Halo, Ghost Recon, Commandos, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted, The Last of Us, Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, Battlefield, Star Wars: Dark Forces, Madden NFL. There’s one game that I haven’t listed here, and it was one of my favorite shooters many years ago. The problem is I cannot remember what it’s called. It was a first-person shooter, but set in WWI. The premise of the game was WWI had never ended and the fighting was still going on decades later. So fighting was trench warfare using mustard gas, minefields and bolt-action rifles. I’d appreciate it if anyone can remember the name of this game because it’s been bugging me for years. The Fearless Assassins have always run excellent servers with great gamers to play with. I hope to see you in the game sometime. A new player returning to the field, MarkItZero71 7 Quote
