Wolfestein goes black screen then closes and comes up with this

I downloaded the ETKey file and moved it to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\etmain

 

as it wasn''t in there on install.

 

How do i address this next problem?

Not 100% on the whole issue but if it's directing you to a place to manually download needed files, try starting the game, opening the console, and typing the command /cl_allowdownload 1 so that the game will automatically download them when you connect to a server.

I wonder where did You download the game from.

I would like to suggest to uninstall, and download it from here: 

 since i tested it some time ago and it worked fine (i even got new etkey during install, did not have to download it separately) 

Or try ETLegacy as mentioned above by @Drempa.

 

I do not guarantee it will work, but it would not harm to try.

I would also recommend using ETLegacy client (now at version 2.83.1) , just search in google for ETLegacy and the link should be the first.

Once installed just start the game and create the simple profile, set the alias, screen resolution and few other things.

connect to the server you like and let all needed files to be downloaded as needed, etkey will be created.

Then you can mess around with your own cfg files or ingame options menu to make the game look and feel as you prefere.

 

you can keep the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory it won't do any harm

the new game directories will go under :

C:\Program Files (x86)\ETLegacy for the install

and under C:\Users\<your_user>\Documents\ETLegacy for the ingame files such as maps , etkey and config files

be careful not to download from an unofficial websites, some clients may contain "unwanted" things
