*Evil*Stevedawg Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 could be alot of things lol first i would make sure you dont have uneccesary programs loading when you start your computer. here is a general guide for all OS http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/index.html msconfig will show you programs that are booting when you start your pc. Uncheck what you dont want to start up or doesnt need to start up. Things such as Itunes helper, quick time, java updater, adobe updater and other do not need to start up everytime you turn your pc on.. A more advance boot controller can be used such at autoruns. But really msconfig is all you need. Also if you havent done a spyware scan, virus scan, defragged or run a cleaning program lately (CCcleaner) they can all help. If all else fails a new OS install seems to work wonders 2 Quote
SkyeDarkhawk Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 What version of Windows are you running, if you running Windows at all? If it's Vista or higher, try opening Services.msc (Start -> Run -> Services.msc) and disable the service called SuperFetch. Want to know more about what starts up with your computer? Google the program Autoruns; it'll tell you more than you ever wanted to know. Want to know what's safe to remove from that list? Anything that says File not found; that's slowing your computer down as it tries to start something it can't find. Pick up a copy of Norton Utilities to get some good paid software that can help fix up any other registry problems along with scheduling other tasks that might need done. Use the Disk Cleanup tool provided by Microsoft, along with Disk Defragmenter (Although Auslogics Disk Defrag is better). If there is a Staples store near you, they should be doing PC Tune Ups for free. You'd be without your computer for a day or two, but it should be running a bit faster when you get it back. 1 Quote
