Europe bans Boeing 737 MAX: Planes grounded, diverted as nations shut airspace over Ethiopia crash

An Israeli-bound Norwegian Airlines plane has been forced to return to Stockholm, as the troubled Boeing 737 MAX jets are being diverted in Europe as nations shut their airspace one by one over the deadly crash in Ethiopia
Data from tracker website Flightradar24 shows that Norwegian flight DY4545 got as far as Romania before the plane was diverted back to Stockholm Arlanda Airport. The U-turn coincided with an announcement by Norwegian Airlines that it was suspending all Boeing 737 MAX 8 flights following the Ethiopian Airlines crash on Sunday – the second disaster involving the new Boeing jet in the last six months.

On Tuesday, Austria, Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, UK, Singapore, Malaysia, Norway, Belgium, Oman, Indonesia, Poland and the Netherlands announced they would be suspending all flights involving the Boeing aircraft, joining several other nations and airlines that announced bans the day before. At least 27 airlines have now grounded the Max 8.

Meanwhile in the US, despite several politicians calling on the FAA to ground the aircrafts, the aerospace organization has maintained they are safe to fly and declined to take any action.

They won't ground the fleet in USA because its an American made craft, it's a very dangerous way of saying "We trust this plane, there's nothing to worry about". Be it an Airbus having two accidents on USA soil they would ground the fleet immediately. A lit of politics involved over peoples safety...

Boeing Planes Are Grounded in U.S. After Days of Pressure

After days of mounting pressure, the United States grounded Boeing’s 737 Max aircraft on Wednesday, reversing an earlier decision in which American regulators said the planes could keep flying after a deadly crash in Ethiopia.

The decision, announced by President Trump, followed determinations by safety regulators in some 42 countries to ban flights by the jets, which are now grounded worldwide. Pilots, flight attendants, consumers and politicians from both major parties had been agitating for the planes to be grounded in the United States. Despite the clamor, the Federal Aviation Administration had been resolute, saying on Tuesday that it had seen “no systemic performance issues” that would prompt it to halt flights of the jet.
