another day at work, one step forward to the future

just managed to change the access control reading settings from Legic Prime to Legic Advant yesterday.

that wasn´t that hard afterall, and we knew what we were doing, even though the software behind it was Dr. Städler and is around 27 years old.

The biggest problem though, like always in life, everyone wanted to have a fair share of reputation, even though they bring nothing but themselves or they unaskedfor opinions to the table.

that was one of the initial problem of the project, and why it got stalled, before it couldn´t even get started.

after almost 11 years, the transformation from an old reading format and it´s hackability, finally advanced one step further into the future.

which brings us now to the next problem of exchanging 250 old access controllers, and even more 350-400 access readers,

since they are still in the old fashioned way of reading, and just not capable of reading legic advant at all.

this throws up open another hole of around 1 million euros of hardware exchange globally on all departments...

so guess what´s going to happen next...

exactly nothing... like always. so we meet up again in a couple of years, only to find out, that we didn´t invest in the future, and kepts maintaing the old stuff as best and bad as possible...

so now it´s up to me again, to think of ways to declare the current state of the hardware as outdated or uninteger...

honestly, if a hammer hits the devices, they will be broken too... no questions asked...

A Significant Leap Forward.

What started as a personal quest in 2019 to break free from proprietary hardware has finally culminated in a major success: the successful integration of wide-range access control antennas with Legic Advant technology.

This breakthrough eliminates our reliance on costly, third-party solutions from Company 1 for connecting to our standard access control devices from Company 2.

The core challenge has always been to seamlessly connect Company 3's wide-range antennas with Company 2's access control units.

A pivotal development was the introduction of the OSDP standard, a crucial communication protocol between card readers and control units, which paved the way for this integration.

After extensive testing and development, momentum truly picked up in October of last year.

A dedicated project secured funding for new antennas and their implementation, allowing us to accelerate development. By then, I had successfully created a prototype, though it was limited to the older, less secure Legic Prime reading method.

The recent shift to Legic Advant presented an additional hurdle, temporarily delaying our progress.

However, I'm thrilled to report that this challenge has also been overcome.

As a result, only an estimated 20-30 legacy wide-range antennas remain to be upgraded to the new standard.

This achievement renders Company 1's hardware completely obsolete. More importantly, it means that future tenders for new software to connect Company 2's access control devices can proceed without any involvement from Company 1.

This technical feasibility is a tremendous benefit, not only for our organization but also for any other companies seeking to utilize this product combination.

When you think about it,

this journey began with a dismissive encounter in 2017.

When I inquired about integrating with an intruder alarm system, Company 1's sales director arrogantly stated, "You wouldn't understand even if I explained it to you."

Two years later, the same individual defrauded our company of tens of thousands of Euros. The crucial difference now is that I've transitioned from the contractor side to the client side.

So if now our IT department declares Company 1's legacy software obsolete, due to these new technical advancements, it could be a definitive blow to Company 1.

I never truly believed I could manage establish all this technical achievements, due to the time passing and delays, but afterall, I once more have proofen to myself, that nothing is impossible.

Me and my magical fingers...
