I've heard of them before lol. I don't know if I'll actually get to stay at one. My friend lives outside Tokyo so I will be taking advantage of the free room.

If we do end up traveling a good bit away and need to stay the night a capsule hotel would be a neat and cheap way to do it.

btw I have come up with a list of popular things to see in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and tried my best to separate it by parts of the city.

Tokyo

  • Shibuya

    • Shibuya Crossing (cool to see at night) – can overlook it from starbucks

    • Hachiko Statue right outside shibuya station

    • Meiji Jingu

    • Yoyogi Park

    • Shopping – Shibuya 109/Harajuku Takeshita-dori

  • Asakusa

    • Sensoji Temple

    • Nakamise Dori – Shopping Street leading to temple. Good place to buy souvenirs

    • Tokyo Skytree – 20 minute walk from temple

    • Sumida Park

    • Five Story Pagoda

    • Ride a Jinrikisha (rickshaw) in a Kimono

    • Yoshiba restaurant

  • Shinjuku

    • Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden – most popular park

    • Free view of Tokyo from Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office

    • Samurai Museum

  • Taito

    • Ueno Park

    • Ueno Zoo

    • Museums

  • Tokyo - various places around tokyo

    • Tokyo Imperial Palace – Closed on Mondays and Fridays 10 minute walk from Tokyo station+

    • Chidorigafuchi – moat area to row a boat in. Really cool if cherry blossoms have bloomed

    • Tokyo Tower

    • Akihabara electronic shops

    • Joyopolis  - huge arcade

Kyoto

Kinkaku-ji Temple (The Golden Pavilion)

Fushimi-Inari-Taisha Shrine

Arashiyama Bamboo Grove

Nijo Castle

Ginkaku-ji Temple

Kiyomizu-dera temple

Osaka

Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan

Osaka Castle Park

Dotonbori - eating/shopping district

Floating Garden ( Umeda Sky Building)

Shinsaibashi - really long shopping strip

Tempozan Ferris Wheel

Shitenno-ji Temple

Looking at staying the night in Kyoto in a tradional style ryokan for a cool experience and then head to Osaka the next day. Depending on the costs and what train pass covers we may end up taking an overnight bus to Kyoto from Tokyo
