Although I dont agree with everyones opinion its nice to see everyone using their brain except for Husa of course.

In my house we actually got rid of TV because the kids were like zombies.

As far as gaming my daughter 9 get to plat RTCW single player under supervision as a treat. ET she watches me sometimes although the language typed by some is an issue. It happens to be that all blood and gore are turned off by my config.

I probably wont let my kids play online till they are much older. The world has enough shit it in it I dont have to throw them in the ewolrd so young.

At the end of the day as was stated earlier one must know their own kids and how they react and perceive things.

I worry about my daughters being abducted.

I worry about them getting hit by a car.

I worry about them figuring out how to get access to my weapons.

I worry about what will happen when they discover boys.

I worry when they get in the silverware drawer and take out the forks and knives.

I worry that they will push a chair up to the kitchen counter and pull down the dishes and get cut.

I worry when they take a bath that they could slip and hit their head.

I worry when they go out in the sun because they could get sunburned.

I worry about them falling off the swingset in my backyard.

I do not worry about them sitting safely in my house, with a mouse in one hand and a keyboard in the other hand, playing video games.

I know what you mean and i will not offend you, but...

About the most things you dont have controll if it will happen or not. You can make sure that your kitchen, bathroom and all the house stuff is secure for kids, but at least you can not controll if a accident will happen or not. But you should have a little bit controll about the things that can be controlled, about the internet of your kids, what they do there and for how long. You can explain all the things that kids should know about the danger of internet, train them what to do if... like you will do it for real life situations like some stranger is talking to her and so on. Would you let your kids use your internet without any controll filter? I think the most parents wouldnt and then why should they dont have controll about games? I think you know al the kids and familys where your kids spent time, but you dont know the ppl they're talking to in the internet and in games.

And i think its a hypocrite security, cus internet stuff can be faster in your real life than you think.

What if your daughter is chatting with a perv in a online video game? Is getting too much addicted to games? See stuff that she shouldnt for her age like a porno site, violence stuff that will disturb her?

Kids can do other stuff inside too than playing video games. Thats not much conducive for their future, but playing kid stuff with other kids is.

My four year old girl likes to play Wolf ET, along with her Dora the Explorer game, and her "Giggles" game. I let her fight omnibots on an old computer. She is terrible at it but likes to play anyway. I see nothing wrong with killing bad guys. Better than sitting on the couch turning into a zombie watching Barney. She also likes to hit random letters on Microsoft Word. I open a blank document and set the letter color to pink and make the font large. When you are a parent you realize that the true purpose of our so-called "entertainment" is just to keep young people busy so we can get stuff done. Honestly that's why the majority of adults buy games for their kids - it keeps them occupied and we know where they are at. Plus it develops her computer skills she will need in the 21st century. Maybe when she is 13 and chatting with 40 year old men pretending to be 14 year old boys I will take it away.

I've seen 12 and even 10 year olds who play ET, and pwn than most players in their 20s. and I actually never saw them swear, or talk smack. so what that said, if I decide to have children, i'd let them start playing around 10 or 12.

It all depends how you raise them really, if they live around swearing and stuff, they are gonna disbehave online. and probably rage when they die.

Like they said age, I don't think its so much how old do they need to be to play games like ET, I know myself and some of my friends have been playing video games for most of our lives and we all turned out fine, if your worried about them playing online then pop the internet cable out before they play or turn off your router, no big deal. But IMO its the rare cases that kids can't distinguish the difference between video games and RL not the other way around.

Age is not the big thing with me, I think it is unhealthy for a growing kid to sit in front of a comp.

If and when I have kids, I don't want them getting addicted to gaming at an early age, I started heavy gaming in my mid 20's.. because it was cheaper than beer =D

But as for kids gaming, no I don't have any moral dilemma about them getting online and playing, I just don't think it is good for their muscles to start atrophying at that early of an age.

Teach em to work, Send em out of the house on their own lives, and at that time if they want to get into gaming, have a good time with em online.. I think I will be gaming into my 90's at least.
