EA's soon-to-launch Star Wars Battlefront sounds like it's getting a sequel or multiple sequels. Speaking today at the UBS Global Technology Conference in San Francisco, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen explained that EA's 10-year licensing deal with Star Wars owner Disney will result in multiple Battlefront games, as well as others in different genres, planned to launch for both console, mobile, and PC. "It's a big effort for us, and I don't think there's a human being in the world who hasn't heard of the Star Wars movie coming. And so, [it's a] great opportunity," Jorgensen said about Battlefront, which launches for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on November 17. "We struck a licensing deal with Disney a few years back that's almost ten years in length. The game that comes out tomorrow, Star Wars Battlefront, is a traditional first-person style shooter game. Our goal is to make future Battlefront games as well as other style games around the Star Wars franchise, both on mobile as well as console and PC. It's a huge opportunity for us." "The beauty of the Star Wars franchise is it's almost unlimited in what you can do with it" -- Jorgensen Another upcoming EA-developed Star Wars game is the one Uncharted director Amy Hennig is working on now at Visceral Games. This project remains a mystery, though it is rumored to be an RPG of some kind. Also during the presentation, Jorgensen confirmed that EA's deal with Disney not only covers the six Star Wars films released to date (Battlefront focuses on the Original Trilogy), but also The Force Awakens and other upcoming core installments and spinoff entries in the series. In addition, he reiterated that EA has no plans to make movie tie-ins. "We get access to all of the historical content as well as all the new content developed," Jorgensen said. "The beauty of the Star Wars franchise is it's almost unlimited in what you can do with it. We know Disney has done a great job with other franchises and we believe they'll do the same with Star Wars over time in delivering new worlds, new characters, new vehicles, all the things that make great video games. Our goal is not to make video games directly about the movies, it's to use the IP in the movie to make great, exciting games." The only major rule that EA's Star Wars games must adhere to is that they need to stay true to the franchise's established fiction. "You can't do something counter to Star Wars and that's fine with us because I think that's why people love Star Wars," Jorgensen said. Overall, Jorgensen described EA's partnership with Disney as being "one of the best its ever seen." He noted specifically that Disney has been very helpful in providing EA's development team with the content and access they need to make great games. Electronic Arts has announced how much hard drive space you'll need to download Star Wars Battlefront. In a tweet, EA said Battlefront requires 23 GB on PlayStation 4, 19 GB on Xbox One, and 27 GB on PC. It's not uncommon for file size to vary by platform. However. the 4 GB gulf between PS4 and Xbox One is curious. We have followed up with EA in an attempt to get answers about the file size disparity. Battlefront officially launches on November 17 on all platforms, which is about one month before JJ Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes to theaters. Xbox One owners with an EA Access membership can start playing Battlefront on Thursday, November 12. In other recent news, EA has released a new live-action trailer for the game featuring Twilight and Pitch Perfect actress Anna Kendrick. On top of that, the game's Trophies/Achievements list has been revealed, while EA has launched the free Battlefront companion app, which features a card game and more. When Electronic Arts announced the $50 Star Wars Battlefront DLC pass last month, the publisher didn't say much about what it would include. EA is still not ready to divulge all the details, but now we've learned some of what will be included. Speaking during a recent earnings presentation, EA COO Peter Moore teased that the four expansion packs will add "new universes" and more to the sci-fi shooter. "What we've announced is four extra packs over the next 12-18 months coming post launch," he said. "You'll see new universes, you're gonna see new player actions, obviously new weaponry as well." The Battlefront DLC pass sells for $50. Everyone who buys it gets access to all the new content two weeks before everyone else, as well as an exclusive "Shoot First" emote. Official details regarding the content of the Battlefront DLC pass will be announced in the "coming weeks," EA said. Assuming EA and DICE follow the same setup as the recent Battlefield games, the DLC packs are likely to cost $15 each. Moore went on to to say that DLC passes like the one for Battlefront are "integral" to keeping players engaged after a game's initial release. Also during the call, Moore revealed that preorder numbers for Battlefront are "excellent," though he did not share any specifics. Battlefront launches on November 17 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. That's about a month before the release of Disney's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the first new Star Wars movie in a decade. EA has confirmed that Star Wars Battlefront will not offer its own in-game chat system on consoles or PC. A tweet from the official EA Star Wars account said the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Battlefront will use the "PlayStation 4 and Xbox One built-in party system for in-game chat." Meanwhile, DICE has instructed PC players to "choose your favorite third-party software to communicate with friends on PC." There are a variety of solid VoIP options for PC players, including a built-in voice chat system on Origin. Console players who want to chat, on the other hand, will need to join a party. Strategy and communication for Battlefront's 40-player Walker Assault mode is particularly important, especially on the Rebel side. We have followed up with Electronic Arts in an attempt to get more details. We'll update this post with anything we hear back. Battlefront's beta ended today, October 13. Through six days of availability, more than 9 million people played it across all platforms, making it the largest beta in EA's history. EA has also announced that Battlefront is getting at least four expansions through its $50 DLC pass. In addition, DICE recently took the lid off three brand new multiplayer modes, including the 7v1 Hero Hunt. Source http://www.gamespot.com/

The beta for DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront went live yesterday and is expecting fairly heavy server loads on PC, as is to be expected. EA seems to be on point with this thankfully and has announced that it would be bringing more PC servers online. As it stated on Twitter, “A lot of interest around the beta. We’re bringing more PC servers online and appreciate your patience.” The beta is also live on PS4 and Xbox One where it seems to be working well despite high demands there as well. Currently, DICE is working on gathering feedback and addressing player concerns, including bugs and the general imbalance of Walker Assault which makes it impossible to win should you be playing as the Rebels. Star Wars Battlefront is out on November 17th for North America and November 20th in Europe for Xbox One, PC and PS4. What are your thoughts on the beta thus far? Let us know below.
