Her Loss. She knows darned well I gots the good ideas. Its about all im good at these days lol. But.. fer real Baska.. you will need to actually do some physical work to fix that PC. So its either you do it yourself.. or u find someone who will and hopefully wont rip u off or charge too much. Quote
gaoesa Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 About the pbcl.dll. If you use F-Secure product to secure your PC. Even the latest one, it will make your ET crash just when you connect to a server. For some reason F-Secure doesn't like that dll file when it's being used. There is a fix for F-Secure though. It may be that you are having false positives about that file if that is the only file being infected. I would suggest scanning with other anti-virus products too before formatting your PC. Remember, that full system scans can only be performed in the safe mode. So update the scan softwares and then restart your PC in networkless safemode. Better yet, download some scan CD/DVD from some known manufacturer like F-Secure and burn the image to CD/DVD. Those products will not even load your boot managers and are good choices to do some scanning for inactive files including the MBR. Quote

Ive never noticed it before.. perhaps its a registry issue since I never keep installed games and programs on the same drive.. programs are on my C drive and games are on my D drive. Not saying its not possible.. just havent had it be an issue for me since I started it almost a year ago. scans 2x a week with it. I hope it doesnt do that. F-Secure isnt a mandatory scanner anyhow of the ones I gave so it can be dismissed. These were all just advice and suggestions wrapped in some info anyhow. Im sure she'll do what she feels best. gaoesa Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 F-Secure scans the file as clean. It is when the punkbuster tries to execute code from it when F-Secure thinks it needs to do someting about it and the result is the ET crash. There is a registry value fix for F-Secure that will make it let the punkbuster work normally. However, it will need to be done by hand and it is in no way relevant to this. The pbcl.dll library file that causes this issue came somewhere around 2008 or at least from that on, there has been lot's of reports about it and F-Secure colliding. Fresh install of ET and punkbuster will work normally while on the server until the pb gets updated to the version that has the problems. You can shortcut to the problem by doing pb updates before joining the server I'm certain that the online scanner will report it correctly if the file has been infected and if not, other scanners can do that Quote
