Theo519 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I did a bad thing today. I was playing for a few hours COD4 hardcore and there was a playerX more interested in having a chat room. I thought it was excessive spamming on the screen... In my opinion it was way too much. I told playerX to stop and just play. when it didnt stop I "!warned" him F.Dabo was on and corrected me in saying that was not a "warn" offense. I apologized to player X. Waiting for punishment (be gentle) Theo519 Quote
Funksdead Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Did he offer a solution to the problem...?? If you told X to stop and he did not..then what is the recourse ? I never seen what I would classify as excessive spamming but if so I would have took same action as you. Politely ask X to stop a couple of times then !warn him to stop. Same as I do with foul language and the argumentative types. Quote

As for language... I guess it gives you 6 chances. then kicks you... If you come back you get another 6. Only thing I could have tried for was he was being bitchy? (but he really wasnt.) Not sure if I was having a pissy day or what .maybe I need to up my meds :-) so in playerX defense spamming is ok. Quote
Malokyte Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I'll give you a more definite example of spam compared to chat. Spam is allowed within reason, chat is allowed assuming its appropriate. Spam: Player A: LOL Player A: OWNED NUB Player A: LOL Player A: LOL Player A: LOL Player A: boom HEADSHOT!!11on1!! Chat: Player A: hey, whos seen the new cod game coming out? Player A: looks pretty interesting Player B: ya it looks ok Player A: exploding crossbow ftw Notice how spam involves repeated messages, with little to no actual value behind them. Also note the lack of interaction with other people. Only exception to this is when somebody replies angrily back to one of the statements. This is where you should also step in to try to defuse the situation. Don't take a side, and try to get the person spamming to at least tone it down. They can be a little more definite than that, though then it tends to be bordering insulting, in which case then a red flag should already be popping up. Get ready to respond tactfully to one of those situations. Chat on the other hand has merit, and they're looking for interaction from other players in a positive way. Chat is a good thing for servers. It builds a feeling of community, and can make new players feel more at ease. Notice how there's meaning behind the message, unlike spam. There might not be interaction with other players, but chat tends to be positive, and relevant with enough detail to not be generic (unlike repeated "LOL"s) Some people just like talking in game. As long as its productive, or at least not offensive, I enjoy seeing people chat. Gives me hope that not all people playing this game are shunning social interaction. Quote
fred Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 ok the way that i would draw the line is that i think that would be allowed. what i would be against is people spamming for other cod4 servers. i dont think that someone should be able to say something like " hey this server is boring come play on (insert clan name) that server". the reason i think what you said should be allowed is because we dont have a chat room server. Duckie Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I agree with the way Malo explains it. But even then a bunch of LOL (if timed out long enough) are probably fine. I just don't like it when its like spam within a very short time interval. (i.e. one message of spam per second) i.e. This if I saw this over 3 seconds... I would just say !warn person ok see ya then bye gg. second 1 : F*** second 2 : F*** NI**ER second 3 : F*** THIS SERVER Oh and BTW it sounds like this was a mixup so I don't think punishment is necessary. We can all learn from this event. Quote

Funksdead Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 As Duckie said we can all learn from this. I definitely agree with malo as far as chat. because we all do it occasionally. The language thing, auto kick 6, dont really agree with wholeheartedly. I have had a player twice with what i named the "swear and taunt" "f__k you, i got 5 more to go, F___k are you gonna kick me" " I get more when I come back right, F__K, You all suck " Yes their is a actual person like that. Needless to say his !warn went right in console command and I hammered him,was I wrong? i dont think so. I use the basis of "Is the player being disruptive to others?" Now other players typing stuff to him and turns into a B__ch fest. If so then probably getting a warn. Quote
Rubbis383 Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Sounds like me, but i use better words. And i'm pretty sure that there's lots of reasons to kick out. I don't like to come killed by bullet what 1st kill my teammate. Boom. Then it goes thru the wall and kill two of my teammates. Pox Pox. And last kill me with a headshot, KAshabooM. Not need nothing to make me upset. I know there's no reason to !nerdrage and write it on chat, but HEY... Ye do not kick the pissed players whom has died like someone else...I will kick if i ever see clan member before my name Quote
Cannibal Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 To build on Malo's statement; a big reason a lot of people even still play this instead of MW2 is the sense of community. MW2 is populated almost exclusively by Xbox Live rejects whose communication skills are limited to informing you about how high their opinion of themselves is in as vulger fashion possible. Malo has another point. Any conversation about an exploding crossbow is NEVER spam. > Quote
Kladkakan Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Thank you wise one..... I will learn from this and talk to the player I warned. We both said bye GG Duckie is a wise man, he helped me a lot Quote
