Are you sad that Resident Evil: The Final Chapter may, in fact, be the final movie based on Capcom’s beloved zombie franchise? Well, you might want to get ready to turn that frown upside-down!

According to trade outlet Variety, Constantin Film—the German production house that’s been responsible for twelve years (so far) of Resident Evil cinematic plague being unleashed upon the world—is looking to expand their live-action take on Capcom’s series to serialized television once its film run comes to an end.

I actually like the idea of a Resident Evil TV series, but to be honest, I already got it—when it was released as the videogame Resident Evil Revelations. An actual, Hollywood-produced television drama based on the series? That could go one of two ways.

The first way would be that it would be retain the spirit and attitude of the films—and that’s the point where I instantly lose interest, because man have those things been terrible. There is, however, a glimmer of hope here. If the idea is to jump on that Walking Dead bandwagon, we could get a more serious take on the survival of a zombie outbreak, just with more mutant dogs and giant plant monsters than Rick, Daryl, and Michonne are used to dealing with. If you take the main cast—Chris, Jill, Leon, Claire, Ada, Wesker, Rebecca, Ashley, etc.—and re-imagine them as more down to earth, everyday people, I think something actually watchable could come of the project.

We won’t know for a while, however, as Resident Evil: The Final Chapter isn’t set for release until 2016. And hey, by that point, maybe this Ebola thing will have dragged the real world down into an actual end-of-the-world scenario, and we won’t have to worry if the Resident Evil TV series sucks or not. Due to, you know, being more concerned about scrounging for food and fighting off roving gangs of lawless thugs.
