OK.., so check this out, I have a old shitty e-machine that I do all my gaming off of. I say its shitty but in reality its a decent machine and it has been upgraded every way possible. I have 1 gig of memory in it at the moment because when i add an additional 1 gig of memory it has a tendency to freeze up and crash. I have a complete memory dump. I dont understand why this is happening. Its not faulty memory because I can switch out the mem stick and either one works great--but only 1 at a time. Add the second stick and its just a matter of time before CRASH!

I am confused. Is there a setting that I need to adjust somewhere? wtf?

Are both sicks of memory from the same manufacturer? Are they both the same speeds? Some motherboards don't like to run certain brands of memory, and if they are different speeds they are supposed to run at the lowest of the 2 sticks rated speed, but sometimes this can cause the same issue your describing. If they are both the same, it is probably the slot itself, ie. the motherboard.

Are these the original ram sticks that came with comp or did you add one? If you have added one they might not be compatible, also you can download cpuz and check so you dont have to pull them one by one.

ya cpuz or sisandra will tell you your computer information without tearing it apart.

Yes they are the same brand, PNY they actually came together. Stock the machine had 512. But I can put that in with one of the PNY 1 gig sticks and CRASH.

So you think its just the slot itself?

does it matter which slot I have only 1 stick in? During bootup it shouldnt matter I thought.

No it will not matter which slot you use, I guess test both sticks independently , also in cpuz check memory timings and voltage and make sure its the same, if both sticks work independently in either slot and timing and voltage are correct then it could be your power supply.

Hey Joe, I dont really understand what your telling me to do. Sorry. I downloaded CPUID CPU-Z. But what you said about memory timings and voltage have me lost. I upgraded the power supply when i replaced the vid and sound cards.

I do have an other stick but its not in the comp at the moment because of the crashes that happen. I need to put it in and then run cpuz?
