At the company’s annual TechFest event taking place this week, Microsoft unveiled one such project, known as ViralSearch, that is meant to track the origins of popular Web content that has been shared on Twitter. ViralSearch gathers shared data on news stories, photos and videos, and displays the information in an interactive timeline that highlights how content passed from one individual to the next and becomes a viral sensation. The system can help identify which companies or individual Twitter accounts are more efficient at sharing stories across the Internet.
