The raw mineral is usually in smaller chunks and isn't as 8-bit. They melt down a bunch of it and make it into larger pieces to get that pixelated look. 1 Quote

The first thing I did when I read it's bismuth: I googled how to get one and then I saw on youtube people were making them at home. So very tempted to try that at home one day. Quote
