slenderman Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 My laptop is running extremely slow at the moment, I have the following programs for security: -Avast! -Malwarebytes -Ccleaner -SUPERAntispyware Free Edition Now the problem is that I constantly get a notification from Avast! saying that it blocked a malicious URL or a trojan or something along the lines of that (like a rootkit). The scans I do literally don't end, either they stay at 0% or at 99% (those are the avast scans). Ccleaner doesn't help much and Malwarebytes doesn't catch anything or it only catches just one item. SUPERAntispyware on the other hand caught about 100 things the last time I scanned it so I'm guessing that is the only thing that is working good. Thanks ahead of time for the help since I'll probably forget to say that if anyone responds. Quote
ajnl Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 You should get ESET Smart Security 5, it is the best. It does cost money but well worth it. Quote
UAdave Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 superanti is notorious for picking up "tracking cookies" to bulk its detections. MBAM is alot better IMO. Trying running Ccleaner to reduce the number of startup programs and a program called Combofix for any malware as well. Quote
Jefke Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 (edited) Here we go again... There is no best, whatever people say. Current antivirus programs really are close to each other, so it's basicly personal preferences. For example: I used to go with avg, but than it started messing up my windows install after every update, so I switched to Avast. After that I considered switching to Kapersky and I paid for a year... But I really fast remembered I never keep my windows installation for over a year installed, so I will not extend kapersky and switch back to avast free version http://fearless-assa...virus-software/ other topic from August that still applies. The reason why avast keep flagging urls: because there is a ton of crap on the internet, it's simple as that. Well, there is a possibility that your system is indeed infected, Avast support start up scan. Try that one I would recommend mbam above superantispyware, but that's because I like mbam more And yeah, you can ignore tracking cookies, it's good the get rid of them. But they aren't extremely dangerous ^^ And ccleaner, well. I never saw the point of that program to begin with Last thing: what are your system specs, slow pc can have a billion causes ^^ Edited December 18, 2012 by DrJoske 1 Quote
