Here is how ping works and why it screws you in online games.

You and a friend are running down two parallel streets shouting at each other when you see each other through an alley. You are both running at the same speed. But, one of you is running uphill and the other is on level ground. Because of this one of you is slower than the other. Let's say you are on the uphill road at a ping of 140ms. Your friend is on the level road at 70ms. You take off at the same time, but when you reach the alley way, your friend isn't there. But you know he is coming so you shout anyway. Then 70ms later he shows in the alley, just in time to hear the shout, but when he looks down the alley, you aren't there. Because you have kept running and are behind the next wall. This continues until you get angry and call him a hacker.

Another way is to have a duel with another guy. You are 70ms and he is 140ms. When a tone sounds you both pull your guns and shoot. The problem is this. The tone got to you first and allowed you to draw your gun quicker than he did. So your bullet hit him first. This happens all the time and people think the guy is cheating.

Now let's add Punk Buster into the mix. PB sees the ping offset and levels the playing field by slowing down the 70ms guy. PB can't speed up ping so it slows down timing. Now this is where the real pissed off guys start screaming foul. The 70ms guy sees you, and shoots. Clearly seeing in his screen that he beat you. But PB has slowed down his side in order to give you a level chance. Now in some cases the slower guy actually shoots blindly coming into the alley and kills the faster guy. The faster guy doesnt see this on his side because of the delay so it looks like he lost the draw when he knows that he outdrew and shot the other guy. This gives rise to the old saying "WTF!"

If you ever spec some of the 450 to 900 players and watch how they move and shoot. You will see that most of the time they are shooting at a spot they know players usually hang out in or try to hide in. Thats why they kill you so much. They know exactly where to shoot and where to throw a nade. Someone guys are so adept at doing this that they actually run the same circuit throughout the game, every game. Thats why so many top score guys use the P90. Its lighter, faster and shoots pretty acurately. If they have the steady aim on, then they are really deadly. Remember, the P90 shoots a 5.56 not a 9mm.

They also know that if they keep moving ahead toward the enemy they will get a higher score. If they cross the halfway point of the map each time they respawn they get extra points for that. So if they get 2 kills after the 50 yd line then die, spawn, get another 2 kills past the 50 yd line, they are actually going to get a higher score than someone who stays on their side of the map and gets more kills.

I don't play cod, but I thougth pb was just an anticheat, that thing about slowing players down to even the field doesn't sound convincing

On enemy territory for example antilag doesn't slow down anyone, and pb (till it lasted) was just for cheat detection and nothing else.

Nope, the p90 is just the most unbalance gun ever :P

No need to aim when using the p90...

The reason I call it the pew pew gun.

Ow and btw: this makes no sense:

You are both running at the same speed. But, one of you is running uphill and the other is on level ground. Because of this one of you is slower than the other.

The one running uphill just will need to do a larger effort to run at the same speed, he won't be slower

Just saying, I see what you meant :P
