DoC.FreeZeX Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 I'll start with this: The name “Palestine” is a Greco Roman name given to Israel after the Bar Kochva revolt, a rebellion by the Jews of the Judaea Province against the Roman Empire (132-135 AD). The Romans forced the new name in an attempt to wipe out the Jewish identity in Israel. During the Roman occupation Israel was divided into Palest ina Prima (the first) which included Judea and Samaria, the coastal plain, the Jordan valley, and the eastern side of the Jordan River. Palestina Secunda included the Galilee, Golan Heights, and the Northern valleys. Palestina Tertia included the Negev area and the southern side of the Jordan River. The city of Jerusalem became the Romans’ Aelia Capitolina. This division continued well into the occupation of the land of Israel by the Arabs in the 7th century. The word Palestine carries no meaning in the Arabic language, similarly to the words Jordan and Lebanon- which are all taken from the Hebrew language. Jordan (Yarden) describes the river water descending (Yordim) from the northern area toward the Dead Sea. Lebanon (Levanon) refers to the white colour (Lavan), covering the area during the winter months. Palestina is derived from the geographic expression “Pleshet” reffering to the Southern Coastal plain of Israel invaded by the Sea people (Goyei HaYam) 3000 years ago (Pleshet is derived from the Hebrew word Plisha=invasion). The Arabs as well as the Romans did not fully understand the meaning of the word Palestina as expressing invasion to a land belonging to other people. When the Arabs adopted the name Palestina they actually perpetuated their being foreigners and invaders in this region. The origins of Islam date back to the revelations to the prophet Muhammad around 610 AD, around the area of Mecca and Medina. Jews have lived in the land of Israel for nearly 4000 years. I hope you folks in europe and the rest of the world follows the latests events in the middle east. If any one wanna know something about it, feel free to ask. (who know's, i might know several things that the news reporter has forgoten to mention\ choose to ignore ). 1 Quote
