first i'm not the best player i have lousy aim and rarely win a gunbattle. i focus on objectives. as an engineer i go for the things i need to blow up, fix, or construct and keep at it however many times i'm killed till i get the job done. that being said what burns me up is people who don't do the objective solely because they want to shoot things. i was playing tonight we were winning we had the objective papers and the person who had them just stopped and played rambo. of course he got killed and the objective returned. and when i say stopped i mean he was at where the papers were supposed to go but refused to put them there. he even asked in general if it should be ended. i don't play this game to kill people i play this came because it is objective based. i'll keep at it till i get the objectives done. if those objectives are finished quickly.. so be it. if i wanted to just shoot things i'd be playing counterstrike. i'm not. i have enjoyed my short time on these servers and i will doubtless enjoy it in the future but tonight just really rubbed me the wrong way.

I don't know where you usually play, but in almost 6 years of ET I have never seen a public server where they actually play for the objective all the time, and it's even rare to find one where they do it every now and then

If you like to play for obj, then you should play in a team against other teams, but the problem there is that they are never under a certain skill level, and it's a bit demanding.

And, by the way, you wanna rush the map? Take the objective yourself and survive, don't let someone else take it instead, I don't see the problem.

In my opinion you should also try to understand it from the point of view of the player who didn't finish the map, as well.

Have you ever wondered why they don't finish? My 6th sense tells me that you don't have much experience in this game, so maybe it could be hard for you to see the whole picture.

If you have fun doing the objectives, then the fact that the map ends or not is not relevant. If you want to 'win', then you should ask yourself if rushing a map in a public server, where nobody usually defends, and where defenders are not given a chance to attack themselves in the other round is really 'winning'

just play for fun imho, don't get mad so easily...

i have been playing ET for almost 5 years. and yes the server i previously played on was objective based. if you purposely did not complete the objective i.e. you had the "papers or radio part" and purposely didn't do what you were supposed to with them you were kicked. repeats were banned. like on fa servers the motd messages had one that made this clear. "this is enemy territory not counterstrike... always go for the objectives"

you will find there a rule which says: Dont rush. Let people enjoy the map.

Most of the people on F|A server does enjoy a map in killing as much people as they can kill, its not forbidden. Some people having fun in doing objectives, find them and play in a team with them and you will have fun to :-)

When I talked about experience, I actually meant if you have ever played clanwars and such (now don't think I am such a pro because you would be mistaken, I was always low+ max and my clan only played scrims, never officials, I can't say I really know every nuance of the game, because only skilled players who play vs skilled know, I'm not even close, and last 2.5+ years I played only jaymod, which says enough of me).

But, if you ever played that way (the 'real' game), then it may (or may not) be disappointing for you to play for the objective in a public server (especially if not etpro, or in general with beginners in it), and it might sound (or not) meaningless for you to play objectives if the game is not in stopwatch mode.

Now I could write a wall of text telling why it's lame for me to do the obj when it's damn easy and nobody is defending, or why it could be worth it even in pubs when it's hard or stacked (but in public servers there's never team play so it sucks too) but this post is already long.

I always liked to play for obj, but it's hard to find such a place (mod=etpro, stopwatch mode, players who actually play for obj, of course according to their abilities). Someone could say: 'then join a team, and don't play in pubs' but I am not so skilled, and joining a team is demanding for many reasons. I often played in servers where they kicked players for *doing* the objective, and not the other way round.

But tell me one thing, kicking someone because he plants in braundorf is quite easy. But how do you kick someone for not doing the obj? Do you kick a player because he is bad, and not helping his team? Do you kick someone because he can't play his class, or the game in general? Not delivering the obj near the transmitter is an obvious case, but what about those players who don't help their teams because they don't know how to play? You kick them, then?

you have to remember that one way ore another everyone helps with the objective, just by playing, even if he is just a "fragger" he kills enemy's so they have to wait untill they spawn and they can't kill you in that time, they make it "easier" for other people to try complete the objective. I play on NQ1 and in my opinion many times players try to complete an objective, not only by playing only for the object, you need a combination of good fraggers and objective players, if you have only players who only look at objective in you team you would never succeed in winning the map and you would all get slaughtered ;) and as sunlight already explained, 90% of the players play only to kill people and it's the same for every other shooter. Why? Because we are all human, we love it :D

you mean this rule? you left out the trick jumping part of it:

8. Trickjumping to rush the maps is not allowed. Let the players enjoy the map. We reset XP for map rushers.

and trick jumping had nothing to do with it....

you missed the point. it's one thing to have someone with the objective and not know where it goes. it's another thing entirely when they purposely refuse to finish the objective which was the case here. this person knew what to do and asked in open chat if he should end it. this tells me he knew good and well what to do with the objective and consciously refused to complete it.

i do personally feel tat u r qu8 mistaken in your opinion ....

.. you dont play et just to keep winning all the time ... its a "PUB SERVER " r8 ? ... people from all over the world ( including u nd me :D) .. play et just to have some fun time around .. there are people who really dont want the map to end so quickly .. eg: if the map is sort of like a 30 mins map .. lets say we have 2 objs .. completing one obj within 10 -15 mins is not a problem .. ( the other obj will keep things busy ) but if u want to complete the game fast just to win then i think you wud miss the enjoyment ..

i dont say completing obj is a problem .. .. but just trying to complete obj and being hard towards others make the game lose its healthiness

this person knew what to do and asked in open chat if he should end it.

i do support this guy . this is wat i appreciate from my fellow gamerz .. he knows tat ending a map too fast will mean less enjoyment .. tatz y he asks the fellow members whether he can finish the game or not .. ( WE ALL R HUMANS WHO PLAY ET TO GET SOME FRAGS ALSO R8 ? )

[ if u still think i am wrong may be its just that people have different opinions .. dont consider the xperience as an unpleasant one .. just take it as just another day at et ... ]

keep enjoyin playin in our servers .....

i see your point but everyone is acting like with the end of that particular map there will be no more maps ever. as soon as that map is completed the next one starts. keep playing and you will get to play that map again in a short while. so where's the point?

Posted

The point is that some players like a particular map very much and don't want to play it for only 5 minutes, and what do you mean with "short"? I think one map-rotation take a few hours? Not many players play that long to play one whole rotation (i can be wrong of course), so when they have it they want to enjoy it as much as they can I guess and that is why that guy was asking if he could end the map ore not, you may not think it's funny but a lot of players will appreciate it and you have to respect that :)

hmm,

maybe the point is that loading maps and warmup takes time, and after you wait for that you don't wanna play only 1 minute? Maybe some players have a favorite map, and maps they hate, and 'by chance' all the nice maps get rushed and the stupid ones are played forever? I *can* see your point, but it's not the 'truth', I have a different idea and some might have other ideas.

I could use your own argument the other way round: if there will be another map anyway, why do you end the 1st one? :P

And also, in the 1st post you said 'we were winning we had the objective', but when you say 'we' you include even that player who doesn't play for the objective :) not everyone has the same goals or points of view, there are many ways to have fun, why you get disappointed if 'your team' loses, there isn't such a thing as 'your team', sadly it's usually 'you' plus a bunch of random guys.

Another thing, if you play defense without stopwatch, in some maps you 'have' to lose (adlernest, frostbite, etc. and if the server hasn't more slots than ET is made for, I would add goldrush, oasis and all standard 30minutes maps) unless attackers suck hard, they win all maps sooner or later, so axis should mass disconnect every map, because they 'cannot win' ...

I can understand your frustrations, but, it would be next to imposible to moderate players who wouldn't want to do the obj

That sounds like something I would do and have done several times in the past. Who knows, it might have been me. :yahoo
